Norwegian alt-pop artist AURORA joins GRAMMY®-nominated, Emmy® Award-winning composer Bear McCreary for “Morning Shall Come,” an ethereal new song written for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Out now via Capitol Records, the track was written by McCreary and AURORA, with lyrics by McCreary and series showrunner J.D. Payne. The song accompanies the story of Galadriel and Celeborn, portrayed by Morfydd Clark and Jamie Campbell Bower.
Alongside the single, fans can also watch a special behind-the-scenes video featuring McCreary and AURORA discussing the making of the song. The official music video will premiere November 9 exclusively on Amazon Music before arriving on AURORA’s YouTube channel. Filmed as a performance, the visual journey moves from Sky Studios in London to the treetops of Rivendell.
For AURORA, contributing to Tolkien’s enduring fantasy world is a deeply personal milestone, rooted in a lifelong appreciation for the author’s work.
“I’ve loved the Tolkien universe since I read his books as a child. The Lord Of The Rings has been such a huge part of my life. Being a part of this ancient story is such an honour. To shed light on the good behind any evil, and the evil behind any good. Working with the team, and Bear on this has been an adventure in itself. I am very very grateful!” says AURORA.
The complete The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power soundtrack arrives November 13 on digital and streaming platforms, with an expanded digital collector’s edition planned for a later date. The collection features 22 tracks, including “Morning Shall Come,” alongside performances from The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices, Finland’s Mieskuoro Huutajat, Jens Kidman of Meshuggah, and series cast members Sophia Nomvete and Morfydd Clark.
Across the season’s score, McCreary continues to broaden the musical language of Middle-earth, incorporating choirs, folk instruments, and Tolkien’s fictional languages. The soundtrack’s tracklist also includes “Nazgnagôl,” featuring Kidman and Morgan Sorne; “The Most Devoted,” featuring Katrine Stenbekk; “Searching in Stone,” featuring Nomvete; and “Echoes of Ancient Music,” featuring Clark.
The collaboration arrives during a particularly eventful period for AURORA. In September, she marked the tenth anniversary of her debut album, All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend, with The Moth Tapes, a collection of demos and alternate versions from the album’s early days, including the previously unreleased title track.
Earlier this year, she also joined forces with The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands as TOMORA. The duo released their critically acclaimed debut album, COME CLOSER, in April via Capitol Records. Its 12 tracks brought their distinct musical worlds together through textured, rhythm-forward productions, earning praise from The New York Times, NPR, and Stereogum, among others. Billboard described the album’s sound as “textured, moody, rhythm-forward production.” TOMORA returned in October with CELEBRATION, a five-track EP featuring two new songs and alternate versions of its title track.
With “Morning Shall Come,” AURORA and McCreary bring together her distinctive vocal presence and his expansive approach to fantasy scoring, adding another chapter to the evolving musical world of The Rings of Power.
