Walking Off the Leash

There’s a specific kind of hurt that comes from realizing you were managed, not loved. IAMRONDO puts that feeling at the center of his new pop single “Your Pet,” and he doesn’t soften it.

The song tells the story of someone who trusted a partner, or maybe a close friend, and slowly figured out that the affection came with strings. Love as a disguise for control. That’s the core of it. And it’s a story a lot of people know from the inside, even if they never said it out loud.

What makes it work on paper is the arc. It starts in disappointment. Broken promises, plans that went nowhere. Then it turns. By the end, the person at the center isn’t asking for an apology anymore. They’re just leaving.

A Title That Bites

“Your Pet” is a sharp little phrase. It sounds sweet for half a second, then it doesn’t. A pet is cared for, sure. It’s also owned. IAMRONDO picked a title that tells you the whole relationship in two words, and I like that he trusted listeners to catch it.

The chorus, as he describes it, mixes gratitude with regret. That’s the bit I find most interesting. Plenty of breakup songs go full revenge or full sorrow. Saying thanks and still walking out the door is a more grown-up place to land. It admits the past mattered without letting it run the future.

Songs Built on Stories

IAMRONDO calls himself a songwriter and storyteller, and his catalog backs that up. His first releases, “Arakis” and “Love Books,” set him up as an artist chasing narratives about the tangled connections between everyday people. Attraction, relationships, the things that hang around long after they end.

He says his influences come from travel, love, loss, joy, and hope. Pretty broad list, honestly. But the aim is clear enough. He wants songs people recognize themselves in, not puzzles to decode.

“Your Pet” is the darkest corner of that world so far. It’s about self-worth more than romance, and about refusing to let someone else’s manipulation decide who you become. For a third release, that’s a confident step.

So if you’ve ever had to unlearn somebody’s version of you, put on Your Pet and hear how he handles it.
