Albert Eno’s Second Solo Album “II” Considers the Lasting Influence of Human Relationships

Italian musician and songwriter Albert Eno released his second solo album, II, through Filibusta Records and Romolo Dischi. The ten-track recording addresses interpersonal relationships, separation, and memory through a musical approach informed by folk-rock, alternative music, and atmospheric production.

The album follows Albert Eno’s earlier work as frontman of the alternative rock group Kismet and subsequent development as a solo recording artist. His professional experience includes performances alongside Charlie Winston, Noah Gundersen, and Stu Larsen, contributing to a background that encompasses both collaborative and independent musical projects.

The title II refers to the visual representation of two parallel lines, suggesting individuals whose lives follow similar trajectories without necessarily intersecting. This concept provides a thematic framework for compositions concerned with emotional proximity, personal independence, and the lasting consequences of relationships.

The recording begins with “Reflection” and proceeds through “Hold Me” and “To Her Hometown,” establishing the album’s recurring interest in personal experience and emotional attachment. “Empty Lung Apnea” features Crivez, while “Song to You” and “Forgotten” continue the sequence before the album moves into its concluding selections.

Additional collaborations include pianist and vocalist Frida Bollani Magoni on “Stay” and Martlene on the closing composition, “Lullaby.” These contributions form part of a recording that combines individual songwriting with selected guest performances.

Musically, II draws on acoustic and electric instrumentation, incorporating atmospheric guitar arrangements within a predominantly folk-rock setting. The production emphasizes the relationship between vocal expression and instrumental texture, allowing the compositions to retain an intimate character.

Rather than presenting a chronological account of a single relationship, the album considers several aspects of interpersonal experience, including attachment, absence, and the persistence of memory. Through its ten compositions, II documents Albert Eno’s continuing development as a solo artist and his interest in examining personal relationships through understated, narrative-focused songwriting.
