And the numbers have to grow over the recent years. Most people have come to appreciate and take up playing poker online.

Traditionally, poker was mostly played in casinos, at home among friends or in poker rooms. Not many people took part. Most casino owners were also reluctant to have poker games. Mainly because they made very little capital from it. They still had to pay for their premises and played on low stakes. The small profits they make can’t sustain them to promote poker games. With the advancement in technology, poker sites have been developed to enable gamers to play poker online. This is a great move since gamblers can play poker from the comfort of their homes provided they access online poker sites. Reducing the pressure of having to go to a casino to play poker. The number of online poker rooms has risen. Online poker rooms earn profit through a few ways as listed below.

Via Rake

Rake refers to a certain fee paid to online poker rooms for hosting poker games. It is mostly gathered from most ring game pots played with real money. From this, the rake is calculated as a fraction of the pot based on a sliding scale and capped at a certain amount. The rake structure differs across the different poker rooms. Each poker room decides its own structure. Compared to motor and brick, the stakes-placed on a rake is way smaller. Mostly because the cost of running an online poker table is smaller than having a physical poker table.

Offering side games

Some online poker games offer side games such as blackjack and roulettes to make a few extra coins. They also offer side bets on poker hands and the gamer plays with real money against the house. Most profits are realized in this since most odds favor the house.

Investing Players Money

Most online poker games invest the money their client’s deposit. There are however regulations laid down to ensure there are no great risks on the clients’ money. No interest is paid when online poker rooms invest using the deposits made by clients. Therefore all the profits made will go to them.

Hands played in Multi tables

Hands played in impromptu sits, go tournaments and multi-tables are not raked.  However, an entry fee is placed. The entry fee can be up to 10% of the tournament.

Playing poker online is cheaper than the traditional way. Poker is referred to as an intelligent sport for the educated and elites. This has seen the number of youths playing poker online rise indicating the growth in interest in poker. More and more people are joining the game by the day. Online poker rooms are thus assured of registering more profits from online poker games.
