SINGLE REVIEW: Paradise by Szandra Mayer

“Paradise” by Szandra Mayer, is the second song released by the 11 year old-sensation, but it’s as if she’s been singing for many years. The difference does show between her debut single and this new one, but it’s no surprise for any young voice to change as it goes. This song just reaches some higher high’s worth pointing out thus far in her musical journey that has a long way to go but nevertheless comes on very strong. Mayer was born in LA, and is now in FLA, but also comes from Spanish and Hungarian roots in a bi-lingual household. If that’s not interesting enough, she is an aspiring actress and a model too.

It’s hard to imagine that in just three years-time, such a young artist can do as much as she is doing by any means, because this never used to be the case before the DIY indie music era. And even though anyone can record and release a song now, it doesn’t mean they have the chops to back it on the level Mayer does. The video for this song combines footage of her with scenes from in and around Budapest, and it equally matches the originally well-produced audio quality, singing and lyrical efforts of Mayer that you don’t even get from some well experienced older artists going around.

The vocals are backed by an exquisite arrangement of piano/keyboard, Spanish influenced guitar and world class percussion that make it so easy for her voice to soar over, it’s the type of music just about anyone would want behind their voice. Wherever it comes from, it’s well selected and just as integral to the song as her singing and vice versa that once you hear it you can easily point it out. The single comes recommended on every level because of that and the sheer quality of Mayer’s voice. Put it altogether and there’s a recipe here for nothing but success.

The song “Paradise” itself, is an overall soothing and hypnotic listening experience, musically speaking, but at the same time it’s vocally sharp and focused with Mayer’s amazing vocal prowess scrawled all over it. The latter is so true that it begs the question of where this singer will go in the future, which for her is a long and prosperous thought. And as she goes into the full-length album phase, her songs can get longer and have just as much impact because this one packs a lot into just three minutes and eight seconds.

Going through school as an indie artist seems like another hard to accomplish thing, let alone the modeling, but acting does fit more into that picture. It’s an exciting time to be living in when you can be so young yet so focused on what you want to do, that even three talents in one can be juggled. It goes beyond the music for what it’s worth, but you also don’t hear this every day either, because the single speaks measures for itself while it succeeds on its own merits and it is a must hear for fans of just about any genre.
