Hi Preston, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Doing great, thanks for asking!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Supply and Demand”?
Sure, Supply and Demand is a song written by Bcuz as part of a music movement created to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. He wrote the song during a time in his life when he was struggling with feeling like he was not enough. Music can be very healing and inspiring. The lyrics in the song say “I need your love, you have love to give, baby that’s supply and demand.”
What drew you to want to be a part of the “Leave On The Light” movement?
I was inspired by bcuz to join the movement and to reach out to as many people as possible with my voice. My parents always guided me to use my voice to make a difference and recently I had some friends that were struggling with their mental health. I realized I could help them because they didn’t always feel comfortable talking about it themselves. Especially during this time in our world where hatred and isolation is prevalent, we hope to encourage everyone to spread love and to “leave on the light”
How was the recording and writing process?
The song was already written when I received it, but what was actually pretty cool was that both the songwriter Bcuz and producer Meggastan wanted me to feel free to change lyrics, explore different melodies, and just make it my own. We all hung out one day at the AudioVision Recording Studio in Miami and just sang and danced; it felt very open and creative and the result was the current song “Supply and Demand”!
What did you learn from your run on The Voice that you are putting in action on your career now?
Most definitely when I sing the lyrics I do my best to make sure they mean something, I don’t want to just sing words but sing with meaning and express myself. Both John Legend and advisor Usher drilled this into me.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
ABSOLUTELY!! While I am working on writing and producing my own songs and trying to get better at that, I continue to work with other songwriters in finding the perfect songs for my voice and age. I’m excited to continue to explore new music.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Let’s say maybe in the fall??? J and then of course I can’t let the holiday season go by without some sort of Christmas cover
Any plans to hit the road?
Always open to going to perform at different events when invited to sing some covers and now I’ll be excited to perform an original “supply and demand”. My friends (and tik tok influencers) Mckenzi Brooke and Reif Harrison are amazing dancers and perform along side with me for events. They are also very involved in the campaign. As far as an official tour I’ll need a few more original songs under my belt, maybe in a year or so we can make that happen!
What else is happening next in Preston C Howell’ world?
I am keeping busy by working and doing projects with Acapop Kids, always looking for new great new music to record, and because I love film and TV, I regularly audition for roles that come my way.
