Boy Sim Turns Heartbreak Into a New High on “Cloud Nine”

Los Angeles-based rising pop artist Boy Sim has released his newest single “Cloud Nine,” a euphoric, hyper-pop track that explores the tension between genuine happiness and performing it until the feeling begins to seem real. Fusing a pulsating electronic beat with driving pop-punk guitars and a catchy, anthemic chorus, “Cloud Nine” turns emotional chaos into a glitter-laced rush of infectious melodies and playful defiance. The pop artist and producer behind Slayyyter’s “Hello Kitty” and “Touch My Body,” Boy Sim is set to bring the song’s high-octane energy to life with an accompanying music video on October 21. Marking the 2nd single from his upcoming record, “Cloud Nine” is now available to stream and download worldwide on all major digital music platforms.

Turning post-breakup denial into an intoxicating, upbeat anthem, “Cloud Nine” captures the battle between one’s head and heart. It portrays the moment when the rose-colored glasses come off, and the harsh reality behind a once-idealized relationship is revealed. But as Boy Sim reflects on the warning signs he once ignored and tries to convince those around him (and himself) that he’s ready to move on, he finds himself still thinking about his ex. The “head up in the clouds” imagery takes on a different meaning throughout the track, as Boy Sim ultimately wants to break free from the all-consuming, love-bombing high he’s tethered to and finally reclaim cloud nine for himself. “‘Cloud Nine’ is about that weird period after a breakup when you start performing happiness so convincingly that it almost becomes real, yet you keep finding yourself talking about them,” Boy Sim explains. “I wanted the chorus to feel almost absurdly sweet and euphoric, like I’m manifesting a perfect life out loud, even if part of me still isn’t really sure I believe it.” The misleading appearance of newfound independence is equally reflected in the song’s optimistic backdrop, blending catchy pop hooks and rebellious lyricism with distorted synths and a pop-punk grit, trading the post-separation bitterness for a cheeky sense of indifference.

Born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, Boy Sim’s artistic journey began at the young age of 12, and his background in musical theater and audio engineering has helped shape his creative approach. Extending far beyond the music itself, each new release offers its own cohesive musical and visual experience within its own fully realized sonic world. Having built his musical identity around an eclectic blend of hyperpop, dance-pop, punk, and electronic influences, Boy Sim has crafted a distinctive sound that he calls ‘glamorous club-pop with real emotional consequences,’ pairing high-impact production with raw, unfiltered songwriting. After emerging from the underground pop scene with his debut track “Animals,” Boy Sim has quickly established himself by collaborating with artists such as Slayyyter, Ayesha Erotica, and Dorian Electra. Bringing his electrifying performances to the stage, Boy Sim has opened for Charli XCX, Breathe Carolina, and Dorian Electra, and has toured nationally as the support act for Slayyyter. Now based in Los Angeles, Boy Sim is entering his most ambitious era yet, which began with the release of “Take Me to the Afterparty,” the first single from his forthcoming record. His music has been featured in Paper Mag, BBC Radio 1, and them, and has been added to multiple playlists including Spotify’s Fresh Finds and Hyperpop, and Apple Music’s New Music Daily, Glitch, Superbloom, and Pop Deluxe.

“Cloud Nine” turns the messiness of a failed relationship into a feel-good soundtrack made for full-volume, top-down driving. Carried by witty, defiant lyrics and unapologetic confidence, Boy Sim leaves audiences wondering, is he truly over the breakup or is he still trying to persuade himself that he is? “Cloud Nine” is now available to stream on all digital music platforms.
