Gardena, California — Hayson Tasher Sr., founder of Old Patrolman Guard Services (OLDPGS), is building a security firm rooted in a simple philosophy: nothing comes from nothing, and the gap between effort and results catches up with everyone eventually.
From the Ground Up
Tasher’s path into the security industry wasn’t built on luck. “I was one to not have luck at New Year, new me,” he says, “but I found out about nothing from nothing early, leaving nothing real young. That zero catches up real quick.” For Tasher, that realization became a driving principle: success requires putting in the hours, and everyone struggles at the start.
Before launching his own firm, Tasher worked his way up through the industry, earning certifications and licenses that caught the attention of management. He was offered higher positions along the way, but he says he stayed focused on a longer-term goal. “I was there to observe and collect experience to navigate my journey toward my own security firm one day,” he explains. He credits that period with shaping OLDPGS directly: he incorporated the management practices that worked and deliberately left behind the ones that didn’t.
Recognition
That approach has earned public recognition. OLDPGS received the Business Hall of Fame Award from the City of Pasadena, California, in both 2022 and 2023, honoring its contributions to the security services industry.
What OLDPGS Offers
Old Patrolman Guard Services provides a full range of security solutions, including:
- Armed and unarmed uniformed security guards
- Free consulting
- SB 1626 school security compliance
- Loss prevention and investigation services
- Alarm response
The company’s guiding principles are reflected in its mottos: “Security you can count on” and “Dedicated to a safe and secure environment.”
Staying Hands-On
Tasher points to his continued presence in daily operations, from management to on-the-ground security details alongside his affiliates, as what sets him apart. “I’ve heard some say I wouldn’t work anymore. My reply is, “Look at Trump and Elon, still in the field. ” Love them or hate them, it’s real,” he says.
He measures OLDPGS against industry names like Pinkerton and Wells Fargo, using them as benchmarks for the kind of trust and longevity he wants the firm to build.
Looking Ahead
Tasher’s plans for OLDPGS extend well beyond guard services. His long-term vision includes:
- Retail stores under the “Old Patrolman” brand, offering tactical wear, firearms, security technology, and related products
- Security training centers
- An event-only sister security firm operating under the OLDPGS name
A Message to Others
Tasher keeps it simple: opportunity and the bottom line that comes with seizing it. His broader life lesson: “To be unstoppable, don’t stop. Be persistent.”
