Lorenzo Gabanizza Releases New Single (feat. Jeff Christie)

Singer/Songwriter, Lorenzo Gabanizza, has released his latest opus, “You’re Not There.” I say opus, because the full version is rather lengthy, by modern standards. To the song’s credit, it doesn’t feel like a marathon to get through, and it’s a rather accommodating piece. Lorenzo Gabanizza is something of a veteran, with an extensive history as a Songwriter. In 2018, he suffered something rather traumatic, and is now in the midst of a triumphant comeback.

With a musical history that covers Rock Opera, Indie, and Country, Lorenzo Gabanizza is seemingly as mercurial as they come. His list of achievements is notable and credible, and his progression gives him a somewhat sterling reputation. For “You’re Not There,” he takes on something of a British blues style, with some Americana sprinkled in, for good measure. Gabanizza worked with Peter Hall for this track, who is best known for producing one half of the famed Gallagher brothers, Liam. Hall does a fine job of balancing the multifaceted tracking structure of “You’re Not There.”

There are so many elements to “You’re Not There,” that some might be inclined to accuse Gabanizza of being a bit overambitious. Truth be told, there is nothing egregious about his presentation of the piece. Though a tad dry at times,  “You’re Not There,” ultimately impresses. You get the sense that Gabanizza was going for something with transparency and gravitas on this track. There is a reflective aspect to “You’re Not There,” that gives you a glimpse into the composer’s psyche at that moment in time.

The biggest takeaway from “You’re Not There” is almost certainly its poignantly philosophic chorus. If there’s any line from the song you immediately resonate with and feel deeply about, it’s the most repeated one. Gabanizza is a capable songwriter, and it’s the granular aspects of his craftsmanship that amount to the most. Spiritually, “You’re Not There,” is about as nourishing as it gets. It’s got a universal theme, that’s as timeless as it is timely.

This is the type of song that will satiate Lorenzo Gabanizza’s longstanding fans. It remains to be seen if it will attract any new fans, but it’s a solid effort, nonetheless. Having just had the chance to watch the M. Knight Shamylan film, Old, one is reminded to the elusive concept of time. Our lives and dreams are always fleeting, and while there is no surefire approach to maximizing our minutes, it’s good to remain aware of our fragile mortality. Lorenzo Gabaniazza has learned many lessons, along the way, which has made him a credible and austere composer. His scope and range as a songwriter is on full display with “You’re Not There,” as he seems to just be getting warmed up, again. At one point, Gabanizza sings, then you’re here, on the single. Being here, now, is the most important and crucial moment we will ever have.
