Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Figo”?

My latest single Figo is my debut single that was released 20th of March this year (2017). The inspiration behind it was born from my background, my up-bringing and what I was exposed to growing up. Inter-wined with my heritages (Turkish) very own sound, the saz (turkish guitar). Figo is a representation of my up-bringing and culture.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

If I could pick out a particular event that sparked the creation of the song, it will be my Father. Admirable man with the heart of a lion. My old man is my idol even though some people may struggle to understand why. If I were to explain within this answer ‘why?’ I’ll have to write an article. In short, he is a great man with faults I’m willing to look past.

How was the film experience?

The film experience was awesome. First time being in front of camera, feeling like the star of a movie. It was a proud moment for me. It was my time to perform and to prove to myself I belong in this industry.

How was the recording and writing process?

In studio the recording went smooth. We knew the sound we wanted, Patrick Osei and I. While I delivered on the mic, Patrick and the beatmaker SLVNG Major done very well producing it. The whole aura in the camp was proper vibes.

What was it like to work with Chris Athens and how did that relationship develop?

The feeling of accomplishment and joy was crazy. To think my debut single was to be mastered by Chris Athens just showed us we were being taken serious. The production of the song was at such standards, it felt right that Chris Athens will be on it. The whole relationship made sense. Musically. The development of that relationship was between the geniuses at work behind the scenes. It was one secured by Patrick, himself.

How much did he influence the song?

Chris Athens’ influence on the song was beneficial to the song majorly, but also with the recognition the song achieved during DJ Targets Figo Premier on the 17th of March. The magnitude of credibility Chris Athens brought to the table really shone through the final version of Figo.

How has your upbringing influence you as an artist?

My upbringing influences me as an Artist in many ways. From my image to the very emotion I feel when performing in the studio. It’s who I am, it’s my background and I embrace everything i’ve gone through. For if I didn’t, I would not have been the artist nor the man I am today.

What role does Tottenham play in your music?

The main influence Tottenham plays in my music is it’s current sound. I love it’s current sound and delivery although I don’t use much of it in Figo, I will be paying homage to my hometowns unique sound in the near future.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, the studio is my second home. I can assure you, you will hear more of me very soon. My debut single, Figo, is just the beginning of what I have in store.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It’s all a work in progress at the moment.

Any plans to hit the road?

Once ‘Figo’ is fully recognised by my audience, I will take the next step to showcase my talents to a live audience.

What else is happening next in Tayfun’s world?

My world is very unique to me. The representation of my world are in my songs. Figo is just one piece of the puzzle.
