INTERVIEW: Josh David

Hi Josh, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi there! I have been doing great! Pretty eager to get back on the road again but other than that I can’t complain.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lonely Tonight”?

My latest single “Lonely Tonight” is about 2 people who find themselves in a whirlwind of emotions going back and forth into a relationship that they know just is not meant to be. It is a heavier song in terms of arrangement than my last single. It also shows a different side of my voice and writing style which I am super happy about.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I’m sure almost everyone out there has been in a relationship that just was not working out. When I sat down with the other writers of this song Blane Mitchell And Maxfield Camp, we wanted to dig in a little deeper than just a break up song and show a side where one person just cannot seem to let go no matter how much they realize it’s not good for them.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes! We are going to being shooting the music for this song around Mid-October.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was a lot of fun. I had never met Blane Or Maxfield prior to writing with them. This is a quite common thing in Nashville! When I first met Maxfield and Blane it was just so easy. We all had our strengths and they worked very well with each other. Overall the entire writing process was a lot of fun. The Recording process is always my favourite thing to do. I had recorded this with my producer Jeff Johnson out in BC. We recorded this song in the middle of a tour out west in Canada. Jeff is so great to work with. Every time we’re in the studio together we always have an amazing time and create some pretty sweet stuff.

What role does Canada play in your music?

It plays a big role. I am very proud of where I am from and I sometimes find that when I’m writing I’ll casually drop a Canadian reference in there. If I were to only write about Canada, Tim Hortons would be mentioned a large amount of times.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! Definitely more material to come. I’m always writing and creating new songs. Planning to have a more new songs out in the new year.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We don’t have a definite date set yet for the next single after “Lonely Tonight”. The title for the next single is a surprise! I will let you know soon though haha.

What else is happening next in Josh David’s world?

Other than shooting the music video for “Lonely Tonight” and getting ready for the next single to come out. I’m always doing what I do best! Writing, writing, and writing. Oh and my weekly live streams on Twitch and YouTube, with some special events coming your way this fall.
