Matthew Holtby returns with cinematic new EP ‘Yesterday’

Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Matthew Holtby is a singer-songwriter with nearly two decades of musical experience, propelling him into the limelight. Making headway with his second release of 2026, he emerges with his latest EP, ‘Yesterday’.

Forging vivid sonic ground between indie folk and acoustic pop, ‘Yesterday’ lands as a striking blend of cinematic musicmaking. Consisting of three tracks, the EP was recorded across home studios in his backyard, and in a friend’s living room, with the finishing touches added by Liam Boucher at Treblecock Studios. There’s a real hearty soul to the tracks, highlighting the raw, relentless nature of Holtby’s artistry.

Speaking about the single, Holtby dives in, “I had the house to myself one evening, and decided to put up a couple of mics and just perform a handful of songs for the cats. After combing through the recordings, I thought they were a real raw representation of what I’m doing live lately, and decided to move one step further with them. I reached out to some friends who are exceptional at what they do, and this is the result.”
