Indie folk-country singer-songwriter Alex Amen releases “California Blues,” the third single from his debut album, Sun of Amen, out June 12th via ATO Records, and announces more U.S. tour dates this summer. Amen will perform at several festivals in the coming months, including Analog Reunion, Green River, Winnipeg Folk, and End of the Road, while supporting Kurt Vile in Vancouver and headlining shows of his own including Elsewhere Rooftop in New York and Lodge Room in Los Angeles.
Following “Diamonds,” today’s single “California Blues” arrives as a homesick traveler’s song illuminating the uneasy contrast between the quintessential California dream and its lived reality. On the song’s chorus, he sings: “These California blues have brought me down today // And it’s so lonely all alone // These California blues have brought me all the way // To thinkin’ all about my home.”
“‘California Blues’ is a song I wrote years before I ever lived in California that somehow expressed the things I felt living there years later,” says Amen. “More than any other song made during my time in California it touched on the balance between excitement and isolation one can face when they chase their dreams out West.”
