When the Homestead feature film made its auspicious debut in December of last year, fan reaction was immediately positive about this post-apocalyptic descent into survival. Probably because it played well on the nigh universal anxieties we all share about the state of the world we live in. Based off the best-selling Black Autumn book saga from authors Jason Ross and Jeff Kirkham, Homestead told the story of a former military man who guides his family to a secure location after a cataclysmic nuclear disaster unfolds in Los Angeles. Made with a strict budget in mind, this Twilight Zone-like story scored at the box-office and sheparded in an ongoing sequel TV series which actually made its own debut on the same day as the theatrical release of its big screen counterpart. Unfortunately, two episodes into shooting that first season, Homestead producers and Angel Studios hit an unexpected and extended delay in production due to a freak Utah snowstorm which effectively shut down filming.
Those final episodes yet to be seen from season one is still en route (set to drop sometime later in ‘25, according to sources) and – according to our Rescue from Gilligan’s Island aficionados over at the coconut-eating The Hollywood Reporter – even more good news has been announced for audiences who have gone all-in on the Homestead universe: Season 2 has been given a ‘green light’ by those benevolent overseers at Angel Studios.
“Homestead has captivated audiences worldwide with its bold and uplifting vision of the post-apocalyptic genre,” said Big Wheel of Angel Studios, Jordan Harmon. “The stellar cast, fueled by the unwavering support of our Angel Guild, has not only allowed us to greenlight the completion of season one but also secured an early greenlight for season two, ensuring fans can dive back into the story sooner than ever.”
Weighing in on the renewal of the series, Homestead producer Ben Kasica revealed some details as to what fans can look forward to when the show comes roaring back for that sophomore season: “The remaining season one and two takes us deeper into the aftermath, as the Homestead transforms from a survivalist stronghold into the fragile heart of a new civilization – where rising hope collides with the threat of war, and the choice to lead could cost everything.” Hey, sounds like a typical Monday in 2025 to us!
Perhaps series director Ben Smallbone should be left with the final and hale and hearty response to his series being allowed to come back for even more dramatic and action-packed misadventures.
“We’re thrilled to bring Homestead back for another season,” Smallbone exclaimed in a press release. “The story’s heart lies in its characters and their journey to find hope amidst chaos. With Bailey and Charles leading the charge, we’re excited to explore new dimensions of their stories and the world they’re fighting to protect.”
