INTERVIEW: Hillbilly Vegas

1.) We’re super-excited to have some time today with acclaimed southern rock band extraordinaire Hillbilly Vegas; greetings and salutations gang and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you all say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive reading audience?

We are: Steve Harris – Lead Vocals ; Stacy Thornburg – Guitar/Vocals ; Geraldo Dominelli – Guitar/Keyboards (former Loverboy/Paul Rodgers)

Todd Ronning – Bass (former Bad Company) ; Gunnar Molton (Drums)

2.) Major kudos and accolades on your eagerly-anticipated new album A La Mode which is set to rule the record charts and the airwaves when it drops this May 8!   Steve, can you give readers the VH1-Behind the Music origin story on how one of the best LP releases of 2026 came into being?

Steve: First of all, Thank You! The behind the music part isn’t that exciting – It was actually pretty easy. We wrote the songs, and didn’t write any extra tracks. We recorded them all and it’s on the album. We self-recorded and it wasn’t one of those 20 songs recorded and then chose the best that typically happens. We were pretty confident in the 9 we had.

3.) Stacy, you handled a lot of the producing side of things for the band on the brand-spankin’ new A La Mode LP.   What did the in-studio collaboration look like between you and the rest of the band while fashioning and shaping this new gem of an album?

Stacy: As Steve said, we self-recorded and self-produced. There was no help, and no voices outside the band – it was just us.  We worked together as a band – with a couple of friends helping push buttons as needed.

4.) Geraldo, in your humble opinion what differentiates the A La Mode album from the Distinguished Competition on the 2026 music landscape?

Geraldo: I’m pretty sure we are the only ones who recorded an album in a guy named “Death Metal Jim’s” man cave!  😂

5.) Todd, we’re big aficionados of the gem of a ditty Miss America which stands proudly front-and-center on the upcoming A La Mode LP! What’s the story behind this crackling tune?

Todd: I was messing around with open G tuning as we were writing. It’s something we hadn’t really tried before within this band. I sent the music to Steve and he liked it as much as I did. We ended up with Miss America.

6.) Gunnar, how is the forthcoming A La Mode LP similar to some of the past music of Hillbilly Vegas? How is it different?

Gunnar: The attitude is the same. The stories are similar to what we’ve done in the past – but there is growth and I think the fact we did it all ourselves reflects in the sound. We got what we wanted this time – good or bad, it’s 100% us.

7.) Steve, A La Mode is being proudly presented by those rascally folks over at Quarto Valley Records! What makes Quarto Valley Records the perfect home for Hillbilly Vegas and the music you all create?

Steve: There is a thing in sports when a coach is “player friendly” – they call him a player’s coach. Bruce and the team at QVR are definitely player’s coaches. They just want to make art, and they’ve been amazing to work with.

8.) Stacy, Hillbilly Vegas proudly hails from the great and beautiful state of Oklahoma! How do these particular stomping grounds inform the sound and energy which we hear to such glorious effect on the upcoming A La Mode LP?

Stacy: We are definitely a product of our environment. You get a taste of everything in how we live and what we do in our lives here in Oklahoma.  You get authenticity – we are what we are.

9.) A question for all of you: Who are some of the people who have informed and influenced your own indelible musical stylings?

Steve: Honestly, I’d say FM radio from way back. In those days you’d hear every genre and all the greats on the same station. That’s how it should be today – variety of the best songs, all the time. We love all of it and love to write all of it.

10.) Geraldo, in the wake of the May 8 release of the new A La Mode LP, can fans look forward to catching Hillbilly Vegas on the touring/performing circuit?

Geraldo: You bet. We’ve got tour announcements coming soon, we will be out supporting the album later this summer.

11.) Todd, at the end of the day what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-listen to the best new album of 2026, A La Mode?

Todd:  Thank You for the kind words! We hope they walk away knowing our story and hearing a little bit of their lives in there, too.   Our music is relatable, and that’s why we’ve got fans across a number of different styles of music – Rock, Country, Blues, etc.
