An interview with founder of Iran Parody, Amirsalar Solimani

I’ve been talking with Amirsalar Solimani, the creator of Iran Parody, a popular internet channel which has gained over a million views on youtube. We talked about why he started producing comedic content, his favorite creators, and other topics of interest which we were curious about.

Q: Hello amirsalar, Can you tell us more about yourself?

A: My name is Amirsalar Solimani; I was born on Shahrivar 19, 1374 (September 10, 1995). I am an Iranian content creator; most of the content I create is published on youtube and Instagram.

Q: for how long are you creating content and making youtube videos?

A: It has been five years since I first uploaded a video on youtube; the first three videos were posted on my friend’s Telegram channel called “Game Talk”. After gaining more than 30,000 views each in less than a month, I decided to start my own channel, “Iran Parody” and transferred my videos to youtube.

Q: What is Iran Parody, and what inspired you?

A: I was a fan of parody YouTube channels like “Bart Baker”,“The Key of Awesome”, and many others. I started by making parodies of early content creators’ videos published on the Iranian video streaming website “Aparat” in a private group. One of my friends Arman Farhadi at the time was the admin of the “Game talk” telegram channel. He saw potential in those videos and posted them on his channel. After seeing how many views they are attracting, I decided to start my own channel.

Q: How was your YouTube experience?

A: viewers did not understand my style of satire at first. We didn’t have any comedy YouTubers in the Persian community and some commenters thought they are serious and real. But after a while with the help of other content craters like Rwinshow and Alirexza and their collaboration, those commenters understood this new style of video creation. Many people began to transition to YouTube from other social media platforms after the arrival of a new generation of Iranian content creators in 2017, such as Mia Plays and Aria Keoxer. In the case of Iran Parody, some of the comedy videos I made trend toward parodies and commentary of these new YouTubers. The fan bases of these YouTubers sent me a lot of hate comments at first, but after a while, more and more people began to accept this type of content and found it entertaining.it actually helped me gain a lot of connections between content creators and gave me a lot of networking opportunities. It took a while to make satire acceptable in the Persian Youtube community.

I immigrated to Canada in 2019 to pursue a career in game design. After completing my education, the channel underwent a transformation. The channel’s activity was halted as a result, and there were no uploads for several months. After my comeback, Vlogs and commentary videos were added to the channel’s content mix. This also meant a change in the comedic approach. I’m really happy with the way it’s growing.

Q: I have also heard that you started your own company. Can you tell us more about it?

A: I founded this business to expand on my five years of expertise in social media and the Iranian content creation community in general. I advise on content creation topics such as content management, project management, and video editing for clients who ask for my guidance. I provide training and assistance in video creation and cinematography. I also assist with social media marketing, growing followers by following trends, and deciding on your strong points and niche markets.

Q: You mentioned your education, where did you go to university?

A: I first started studying at the Iran University of Science and Technology. My Bachelor’s Major was Material Engineering, but this was not my passion. I immigrated to Canada to study game design for one year at Vancouver Film School, and shortly after, since I wanted to expand my business, I studied Business Management for another year at the British Colombia Institute of Technology.

Q: I see you stream video games from time to time on twitch. What are your favorite games?

A: I’m a big fan of story-driven video games like Mass Effect. It blows me away with its branching story and rich background. My first introduction to video games was with a different genre, strategy and puzzle games. When my father bought his first laptop, I got two games with it: The NeverHood and Age of Empires II. I loved them so much and have many fond memories of them from my childhood. on twitch, I am a variety streamer. I’m very passionate about video games, so my streams cover diverse genres.

Q: Other than games, what are your favorite movies or series?

A: I love the trilogy movies with big universes behind their story, like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I also like dystopian stories. Black Mirror and Brave New World are some of my other favorite series.

Q: How do you see the future of the Iranian content creation community?

A: Well, it’s a very young industry, and there will definitely be a lot of ups and downs going forward. I believe there are many chances to grow in our community, and there is a lot of space for newcomers to show their ideas and inspire other people.

Amirsalar, thank you so much. It was a pleasure talking with you.
