INTERVIEW: Singer and Actor Jack Nathan Harding Tue, 23 Apr 2019 20:12:18 +0000 Hi Jack, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great, thanks!  Busy busy!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Behind Every Smile”?

“Behind Every Smile” is about the facades we put up.  In this social media world, we’re encouraged to only show the best. The perfect life.  But there’s always more going on behind the scenes that we don’t show or feel we shouldn’t show.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

“Behind Every Smile” was born out of my own feelings of being unheard and the depression it caused.  For me, writing a song is distilling many thoughts into a clear singular expression. With “Behind Every Smile”, getting my thoughts in order actually helped me understand my pain and where it was coming from.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

When I started shooting the video, I wasn’t even sure what I wanted. I was depressed and couldn’t get inspired so I just started filming myself performing the song, over and over. I shot so much footage that I didn’t use. It wasn’t until I began editing that I discovered the performances I liked and ended up using in the final video.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process for me is still very experimental.  My first two single were upbeat  and flashy and “Behind Every Smile” was more about me simply singing.   I spent a lot of time on the details and the arrangement.  It was also my first time bringing my piano playing into the mix.  I think it helped me achieve a more classic country sound for this song.

How do you feel about the great reception for the song and does that put any pressure on you as you work on a new material?

I’m so pleased with amount of people that this song it touching.  Putting myself out there, especially with a song about feelings, was new for me. It felt raw and exposing for this basically private guy.  I’m glad people may feel better knowing someone else has gone through the same thing.  As far as pressure for the next release, I don’t know. I’m feeling my way through this new facet of my career and my artistic decisions still feel very much my own.

Does your acting background influences your music and the other way around?

Yes and no.  As an actor in film and television, I am only a part of the whole.  I’m speaking someone else’s lines, wearing someone else’s clothing, being directed by someone else.  With my music, it’s pure expression.  It’s pure me, good, bad, whatever.  It’s freeing and terrifying at the same time.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

New material is coming soon! I’m about to begin shooting video for my next single.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It’s called “FED UP” and it’s scheduled for release in mid May.

Any plans to hit the road?

I want to go live for sure. It’s inevitable.  The when and where are still brewing.

What else is happening next in Jack Nathan Harding’s world?

Now that it’s warmer, I’m outside as much as possible.  I love working the land, planting, digging, growing trees and plants. It feels real.  It keeps me grounded. Literally.

G FLIP SHARES NEW SINGLE “I AM NOT AFRAID” Tue, 23 Apr 2019 20:08:16 +0000 G Flip aka Melbourne-based singer, drummer, producer and multi-talented performer Georgia Flipo shares a new single today titled “I Am Not Afraid”. Co-produced by Ariel Rechtsaid (HAIM, Vampire Weekend, Adele, Blood Orange) at his studio in LA, “I Am Not Afraid” is a self-empowerment anthem that is G to the core: passionate, towering and unapologetic.

G Flip says: “Everyone has roadblocks in life, tough situations that are hard to get through and the only way to overcome them are to say “I Am Not Afraid”. Whether it’s getting out of a toxic relationship, coming out to your family or getting bullied. Life throws shit at you and you have to be brave. You have to stand tall and rise above it.”

“I Am Not Afraid” arrives after Flipo entered 2019 blazing with two new tracks. The gorgeously emotive “Bring Me Home” reflects a time when relentless pressure led to a breakdown during the most intense period of her life and the summery pop gem “Drink Too Much” reveals how hedonism hides heartbreak.

G Flip will performing at Lollapalooza here in the US this summer with more dates to be announced soon.

Ask these questions before enrolling for the English speaking course online Tue, 23 Apr 2019 19:38:26 +0000 Before you go for any English Speaking Course Online there are certain questions you must enquire about and certain doubts which you should clear.

These are some questions you should ask before enrolling for an English speaking course online: –

The first and most important question which you should ask before going for an English speaking course is that what is going to be the teaching pedagogy.

The pedagogy should be based on adult learning principles and the trainers should have through knowledge about the pedagogy and adult learning principles.

The next and also very important question is that what the course is going to teach you. An ideal course should teach you grammar, vocabulary, conversation and pronunciation. It should also target to remove your MTI and thus make you a great English speaker with a neutral accent.

If there are certain things which you especially want to learn then you should be frank and open with the trainer and request him to pay more emphasis on that particular aspect. For example if you want more of speaking then you can request the trainer to increase the time of conversation in the class and so on.

This is a very common question but is very difficult to answer. This is because it depends on many factors. These include the intelligence level of the student, the amount of practice he puts in, the concentration level of the student and also the drive of the student.

Also the trainer should leave no stone unturned to see to it that the student becomes fluent in English but it takes two to tango and thus the student should also work hard and keep his commitments

If all this is done then it will not take much time for the student to learn and he will become a fantastic and fluent English speaker within a short span of time with Best English Speaking Course Online.

You should definitely ask for course materials and also some good reference books so that you have a support system ready and you can also practice on your own too.

The reference material is very important and should be of top quality and you should insist on receiving it as it will include everything which you will need to know to become a fluent English speaker.

The next and also the most important question is that what are the credentials of the Trainer who is going to train you.

The trainer should be well qualified and should have some kind of certification with him too. Also he should be experienced and also be aware of adult learning principles, andragogy and pedagogy.

The trainer should himself be a good English speaker and also be knowledgeable and fluent in the language. He should have a pleasing personality and should be able to listen well and empathize with the students. He should be approachable and easy to converse with. He should be a mentor and a guide for the students.

It is also a good idea to ask for references of students who have taken classes from the English Speaking Course Online provider. This way you will get firsthand experience and feedback regarding the company and then you can make an educated decision to go for the course provider or not.

Also ask for a couple of references as all individuals have different stories to tell.

Olden Yolk Share New Single / Video, “Distant Episode” Tue, 23 Apr 2019 18:40:39 +0000 Olden Yolk, the duo of songwriters Shane Butler and Caity Shaffer, share a new single and video, “Distant Episode,” from their forthcoming album,Living Theatre, out May 17th via Trouble in Mind.

Following the “warm harmonies, spirited drum fills and bright guitar riffs” (NPR Music) of lead single “Cotton & Cane,” “Distant Episode” is an exploration of disconnection, led by eerie piano and Shaffer’s spectral vocals . The video, directed by Butler and Shaffer, is made of a peculiar collection of black and white movie clips selected from the Prelinger archives.

“‘Distant Episode’ is about rituals of escape, the ties between women, and summoning courage. The title references a Paul Bowles story of the same name, about a linguistics professor whose tongue gets cut out. The video was inspired by a certain time of night, when you can walk down some street and see TV screens flickering on the inner walls of houses.”

Living Theatre is the follow-up to Olden Yolk’s 2018 self-titled LP. Throughout the album, there are moments of stark minimalism and cinematic maximalism, reflective of Shaffer and Butler’s lyrical intimacy and vivid arrangements. The title was inspired by the experimental thespian movement in New York of the same name, in which actors broke from tradition by creating an experience of communal expression. Their songwriting palette takes cues from influences as disparate as avant garde punk, psychedelic folk, and experimental electronic music. After spending a year on the road without a home base, the duo was inspired by both freedom and restriction in their creative practice, and set to record the album in a constrained period of 3 months. They wrote all summer, in a space with no windows, molding private conversations into more expansive works that address concepts of home, spirituality, and ancestry in a contemporary landscape.

Olden Yolk will play their record release show May 16th at Baby’s All Right, kicking off their North American tour in support of Living Theatre. Then, they will continue to tour in the UK.

TRACK BY TRACK: Cataclysm by REDSHIFT Tue, 23 Apr 2019 18:38:44 +0000 REDSHIFT prepare to make their mark with their forthcoming debut album, Cataclysm, which is out this Friday. Rendering influence from a plethora of areas from seventies’ Prog and Classic Rock, to cutting metal and contemporary Prog, REDSHIFT have astutely worked to fuse their influences to create something brave, challenging, and whole-heartedly potent. We asked the band for an exclusive and in-depth breakdown of each of the tracks that make up the album:

The first track is an instrumental introduction to the story. It mainly consists of themes and variations that appear throughout the album. It’s short and fast paced and is a good way to ease you in.

This is where the story begins. Musically it feels like a circus of metal with menacing undertones but also has a strong melodic current throughout. This song stays fairly heavy throughout and is a good representation of what we’re like as a band. Check out the track, here –

For this track we wanted a shorter, more to the point song that contained the energy, intensity and was still technical in areas. This song is a lot more vocally driven and contains all the power and the relentlessness without losing any of the emotion.

In need of a dynamic change of pace to break up major points in the story. It’s a nice piano piece that sets you up nicely for the heavier, more cinematic half of the album.

The heaviest song on the album. This is the real depiction of the battle between worlds portrayed with the aggressive and darker instrumentation, but it still has the progressive influences that drive us all.

Twined with the last song, this really does represent the beginning of the end. Playful use of time signatures and raw emotional energy. It’s one of the more ambitious songs on the album structurally. It’s a very diverse track that contains some of the lightest and darkest moments.

The most technical song on the album with plenty of twists and turns. 80’s slap bass, 70’s Camel inspired organ. Right at the very end the protagonist has got what he wanted but at a big cost and this is reflected as it drifts into the calming and emotional Promises reprise. It’s our prog feast and a satisfying conclusion to the story.

SPOOKSHOW INC. Release New Music Video For ‘Virtual Insanity’ Tue, 23 Apr 2019 18:35:16 +0000 SPOOKSHOW INC. have just revealed a stunning video for the track, Virtual Insanity, , which is plucked from their recently released double album, Visions of The Blinded World pt. I & II, out via their own label, Thunder of The Distant Planet.

Norway based international group SPOOKSHOW INC., are a band who embroil their musical and lyrical imagination in a tapestry of industrial, electro, modern rock and metal; a union wrapped up in cinematic sound and suggestion. Even that does not reveal the rich palette of the band’s sound inspired by artists such as Rob Zombie, KMFDM, Die Krupps, Skinny Puppy, NIN, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Pink Floyd, and Paradise Lost.

Continuing and completing their examination of a world locked in a shadowed maelstrom of negativity, SPOOKSHOW INC. have now unleashed, Visions Of The Blinded World pt I & II. This double album searches every raw edge and ravenous corner of the darkest places with a sound that is bold and ravenous and prime to embrace a rich array of styles and flavours.

SPOOKSHOW INC. have lifted Virtual Insanity from the record, as it deftly depicts the band‘s truly unique and dramatically provocative sound. With footage cut from a series of live shows, the video ideally showcases the crew‘s engaging energetic and hypnotic vigour.

SINGLE REVIEW: taste ($$$) by Noirre Tue, 23 Apr 2019 17:33:04 +0000 In an opening visual-strobe, the video for Noirre’s “taste ($$$)” wastes no time in laying the mind-bending psychedelia on us in a kaleidoscopic display of artistry that is as surreal and evocative as the music it was designed to interpret is. Noirre is outfitted in a shower cap in a bath full of fruit loops, sitting before a piñata with a bat in his hands, consuming foods of the messiest variety and laying against a bed of stuffed animals, all inside of a mere five shots that have been strung together in a dreamlike synchronicity that somehow complements the cadence of the sensuous beats that grow in size as we absorb whatever obscurity is placed in front of us on screen. While the music video for “taste ($$$)” is dominated by seizure-inducing images (literally – check out the warning in the first frame), its true star is its lush soundtrack, which despite having an experimental structure, contains some of the most sleekly accessible harmonies that Noirre has ever committed to master tape.

The rhythm in this song is unurgent and, in some spots, intoxicatingly pendulous. The grooves never descend into slothfulness, but there’s something to be said about their discordant relationship with the vocal track. Noirre is always a step ahead of the drums, and although the synths carve out his path for him, it’s always implied that the instrumentation is following the beat that his verses are creating exclusively. It’s an ambient stylization, but don’t let this single’s impressively avant-garde construction fool you – its hook is as simple as they come. The chorus swings in a familiar pattern that is relatively similar to what I’ve heard in past studio recordings from Noirre, and it’s actually got enough of a grind that it could make for some interesting nightclub fodder were it manipulated by the right DJ. I wouldn’t say that “taste ($$$)” was designed for the dancefloor, but you could absolutely make the argument that its boisterous beats are as integral to the narrative in the lyrics as the sexy drawl of its lead singer is. Noirre is an artist who values textural expression more than most, and though this isn’t his most physical track, it’s nevertheless among his most provocative.

Its surrealism might be a lot for some casual listeners to handle all at once, but for those of us with a discriminating taste for experimental pop, “taste ($$$)” is a strangely decadent treat that can stimulate all of your senses simultaneously. There are a couple of components to this track that are admittedly steeped in pomp and bravado, but that’s precisely what makes it such an intriguing listen this spring. Where so many of his contemporaries are chasing minimalist melodies, Noirre is going all-in on larger than life instrumentals, enigmatic lyricism and druggy dirges that have more in common with the heavyweight hits from modern avant-garde stalwarts than they do anything in mainstream pop, R&B or hip-hop. I was only somewhat familiar with his work prior to now, but you’d better believe that I will be keeping a close eye on what he turns out of the studio next.
