Daisy Miles Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary of Black LA Food Tour

Entrepreneur Daisy Miles is uplifting and empowering the greater Los Angeles area through her Black LA Food Tours. Having recently celebrated her 1 year anniversary of being in business, she has had the pleasure of working with Award Winning Film Director Ava Duvernay, furthering her influence across the greater Los Angeles area.

We spoke with Daisy about her recent success and what is up next for the Black LA Food Tour. Check it out below.

What made you want to start your own business?

The success of my first tour, the love from the community, living in Los Angeles, and understanding how this can be a source of income for me made me want to start my own business.

How does it feel to celebrate your 1st year in business as the founder of Black LA Food Tours?

It’s surreal. As an LA native, it means everything to pour love back into the city that raised me. Year one showed me that when you lead with purpose and community, the people will show up.

What are some things you have learned thus far that you can share with us?

Something I’ve learned is that my service isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. The right audience will find you when you stay true to your vision.

As a black woman in business why is it important for our stories to be heard and told?

For so long our voices and contributions haven’t always been centered, so telling our stories helps shift the narrative and inspire the next generation. For me, sharing my story is vital. Building Black LA Food Tours is about showing what’s possible and highlighting the incredible Black owned businesses in our communities.

What was it like to host Award Winning Film Director Ava Duvernay?

I believe the little girl in me is proud. To have someone on that level like Ava DuVernay compliment my business model meant everything. It was one of those full circle moments that reminded me how far I’ve come. It also affirmed that the vision for Black LA Food Tours is special and that celebrating our culture and our businesses truly matters.

Do you have any plans to expand your business outside of LA?

Yes! I’m curating a tour for Martha’s Vineyard this summer. I also have a few other states/cities in the works.

What is up next for Daisy Miles?

Wow. That’s a loaded question. But I plan on expanding the tours outside of Los Angeles and partnering with correction to gain more exposure.
