The Music Factory Opens Online Lessons After Nearly 20 Years of Music Education

For nearly two decades, The Music Factory, a Seattle-based music school, has helped students of all ages discover the power of learning music through mentorship, creativity, and consistent practice. The school was built around a simple mission: to create an environment where students can grow through music while learning from teachers who are active performing and recording artists.

At The Music Factory, music lessons are about more than simply learning notes or songs. The school emphasizes mentorship and long-term growth, helping students develop focus, discipline, creativity, and confidence. Students study a wide range of instruments including guitar, piano, voice, drums, violin, songwriting, and music production, with lessons tailored to each individual’s interests and goals.

Over the years the school has taught more than 100,000 lessons, becoming a trusted destination for families and musicians throughout the Seattle area. A key part of that success has been the faculty. The Music Factory’s teachers are professional musicians who perform and record, bringing real-world experience directly into the lesson room and creating a learning environment that feels both creative and practical.

Like many education programs, the school faced a major challenge during the COVID pandemic when in-person lessons were suddenly no longer possible. The faculty and staff adapted quickly, transitioning lessons to a virtual format in order to continue working with students.

According to the school’s leadership, nearly ninety percent of lessons continued during that period through online instruction. The experience revealed that the school’s mentorship-based approach could translate effectively to virtual lessons while still maintaining the personal connection between teacher and student.

Now, for the first time in its history, The Music Factory is formally opening online lessons as an option for new students. The program is designed for students who cannot travel to the Seattle location or who simply find online instruction more convenient.

The expansion allows students from outside the immediate area to connect with the school’s experienced faculty and participate in its personalized teaching model.

The Music Factory was founded by guitarist, composer, and recording artist Ari Joshua, who opened the school nearly twenty years ago with the goal of creating a place where music education could thrive through mentorship and artistic inspiration.

Reflecting on the recent expansion, Joshua notes that the school’s experience during the pandemic helped reveal new possibilities.

“During COVID we had to switch to completely online,” Joshua says. “Our staff and teachers actually kept about 90 percent of our lessons going through the entire epidemic. It showed us it was possible.”

With a strong community, an experienced faculty of working musicians, and nearly two decades of experience teaching students, The Music Factory is now extending its mission into a new chapter by making its lessons available both in person and online.
