After performing at the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony in Verona, Danish pop visionary MØ releases her new double single, “Hunnybån” and “Fine Curls” – two long-cherished songs that are intimate, emotionally precise, and entirely their own. The release is accompanied by an official music video for “Hunnybån” directed by Betty Krag.
“These are two sad love songs, but with very different feelings” says MØ. “One is about the fury you feel when someone cheats on your bestie. The other is a shameless, tender longing for the one who got away. I’ve been sitting with them for a little while now. I’m so excited for you to finally hear them.”
Written during a creatively expansive chapter at the end of her “Plæygirl” era, which marked 10-years of her impressive career, the two songs carry that album’s emotional DNA – playful, raw, and self-aware – while existing apart from it. Rather than folding them into the record, MØ chose to let them wait for the right moment. That moment is now.
The singles arrive without the machinery of a traditional campaign – a deliberate move. Earlier this year, MØ publicly shared that she would be stepping back from touring to prioritize mental health and focus on writing and recording new music. “Hunnybån” and “Fine Curls” mark the first release from this new chapter.
The release arrives at a moment when MØ’s cultural presence is surging. Her Verona performance – which drew a global audience of millions – came amid a remarkable renaissance for “Lean On”, her 2016 collaboration with Major Lazer that has seen a dramatic resurgence in streams, cultural conversation and generational nostalgia. The song has become a kind of shorthand for a specific moment in time, and the renewed hunger for it speaks to something broader: a world looking back at a chapter that felt lighter, more hopeful, more connected. MØ is aware of that weight – and meets it with gratitude rather than nostalgia.
“Playing that song again ten years later was surreal,” she reflects. “It reminded me how far I’ve come — and how grateful I am for that. Releasing these songs right now feels like a celebration, and a nod to where I’m at and where we want to go.”
The “Hunnybån” music video, directed by Betty Krag, captures that same forward energy — colourful, spontaneous, and unfiltered.
