1.) We’re super-excited to have some time today with acclaimed Leeds, England Post-Harcorers, Kill The Silence; greetings and salutations gang and thanks for carving time from a very busy schedule to speak with us here at Vents Magazine! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you all say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive readers?
Jason: Hey! We’re Kill The Silence, a 5 piece band from Leeds, I’m Jason, the vocalist and we also have here: Sam, our Lead Guitarist, Ian, our Bassist, John, our drummer and Dan our Rhythm Guitarist.
2.) Major kudos and accolades on your stunner of a new single Final Word which is set to light up record charts across the ever-loving globe when it drops this February 13! Jason, can you talk about what inspired this drop-the-mic new single?
Jason: Many thanks! Yeah of course! This song is about a fight that often goes on within my head, about the passage of time, feeling like I’ve wasted a lot of it and I’ve failed to live up to my potential. It’s about breaking out of that vicious cycle and realising that the best opportunity you have to sort yourself out and get out there is right here and now.
3.) Sam, who handled the producing side of things on the Final Word single and what did the in-studio collaboration between band and producer look like while fashioning and shaping the new tune?
This song and the rest of the upcoming EP was produced by Matt Heap at Suff Studio. He played a huge role in shaping not just the single, but the entire EP. The studio sessions were very collaborative. We’d bring ideas in, pull them apart, rebuild them, and Matt was right there pushing us to make everything bigger, tighter and more impactful. He pours his heart and soul into every project and very often goes far beyond his studio hours to get things exactly right. You can tell how invested he was in this record, to the point where he genuinely feels like the sixth member of this band.
4.) Ian, in your humble opinion, what differentiates Final Word from the Distinguished Competition on the 2026 music landscape?
This single really nails down our new sound. After releasing Hide & Seek in November and showcasing where we were heading, this track hits it home. The variety of influences we each bring to the table gives us an individual flavour that sets us apart from other bands in our circles.
5.) John, a pip of a companion music video for Final Word is being released on the same day as the new single – February 13 – and it’s a beauty; congrats again! How involved was Kill The Silence in the overall look and feel of this captivating companion video?
We always have full involvement in the aesthetic of our music videos so this was no exception. Nice and easy with it being a playthrough, we just do what we do in amongst some lights that suit the feel of what we’re aiming for the EP in general.
6.) Daniel, in the wake of the February 13 release of the new single Final Word, can fans look forward to catching Kill The Silence on the touring/performing circuit?
Dan: We have a huge show in the band’s hometown of Leeds on 18th April this year to celebrate the culmination of what this is all leading towards: The release of our next EP: Resolve!
We’re playing at The Key Club, supported by some of our good friends in ‘Dacara’ and ‘Memnor’. We’re focussed on creating a really special one off show for our fans and celebrating this new chapter of KTS
7.) Jason, word ‘round industry campfire has it that Kill The Silence is poised to unleash their latest EP entitled Resolve this coming Friday, April 17 – Major congrats! Can you give audiophiles a hint or three as to what they can expect and look forward to with this new EP?
Jason: We’ve relaunched the band as of November, with our previous single ‘Hide & Seek’ and now ‘The Final Word’, I feel like these songs are a huge step in the development in our sound. A lot of our previous fans will know this but we have released quite a varied set of singles in the past few years, lighter ‘pop punky’ tunes like ‘Lost At Sea’ and funky/pop rock tunes like ‘Feel Alive’. These are all still part of the KTS flavour and there are songs on the EP that are natural developments to those sounds!
8.) A question for all of you: Who are some of the folks both in and out of the world of music who have informed and inspired your own indelible and musical pathway?
Jason: I think we all have vastly different influences, both musical and non-musical, I think that’s what makes our band come together in its own individual way. – When we started this band I was a huge fan of bands like Lower Than Atlantis, Don Broco & Mallory Knox.
Dan: I originally started playing guitar because of Synyster Gates. Nowadays bands like Periphery and Killswitch are always bands I look up to. I always take a lot of inspiration from every band that I see live in terms of performance, anything I think is cool, I then think of how I can adapt that to my own performance. Finally, truly it’s one of those scenarios where I joined this band because everyone in it is so talented and that drives me to become a better musician and performer.
John: I was massively into Rush as a teenager so Neil Peart has been the biggest influence. My dad listened to a lot of prog rock and I seemingly inherited the same taste. Nowadays Neil is still up there along with Craig Blundell, Gavin Harrison and Aric Improta, to name a few.
Ian: I studied an awful lot of bass players in my teens when it became my main instrument and I started really geeking out about it. Lee Sklar, Victor Wooten, Ryan Martinie, Flea, Mike Dirnt, to name a few. They’re all big names in their respective genres for a reason. As far as bands go, I slept on Enter Shikari for a long time but now they’re one of my favourites. Endlessly creative, endlessly motivated, always reinventing themselves earnestly and being a true independent success story. They’re a real inspiration.
Sam: Most of my inspiration comes from the bands I grew up listening to and even now, if I hear a song I love, I still find myself thinking, “I wish I could write something like that.” Writing original music is a huge passion of mine and I see songwriting as both a creative outlet and a way to constantly challenge myself and grow as a musician. Lately, I’ve been especially inspired by solo guitar artists like Clayton King and David Maxim Micic, as well as more extreme players like Charles Caswell from Berried Alive, alongside his wife Kayley on bass.
9.) Sam, what’s the VH1-Behind the Music origin story on how Kill The Silence came together to form the tight and harmonious band which we hear to such glorious effect on the roaring new single Final Word, as well as the upcoming EP Resolve?
Kill The Silence has actually been a long time in the making. Jason and I first met back in 2011 at college, and we formed the roots of the band in 2012. The line-up really solidified in 2019 around the release of our Bloodlines EP, after Jason met the rest of the guys at university. Since then, we’ve properly gelled, we understand each other musically, trust each other’s instincts and have a huge amount of confidence in one another as musicians. That chemistry is what you’re hearing on this track and throughout the upcoming EP!
10.) Ian, at the end of the day what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin to the crackling new single Final Word?
If people dig the new single enough to share it with their friends and come to a show, that’s good enough for me. We do this for the love of the craft, but getting to share it with people who love live music makes it all the sweeter.
