Dive into the story behind the music and the mindset driving Banny Decks’ fast-rising career.

Vents Magazine: Tell us a little about your story and background…

Banny Decks: I first got into the music scene in my early years, MCing and DJing from the age of 11 in the youth clubs and at parties. Then when I was around 16 we was playing on pirate radio and going to raves at Bagleys and Stratford rEX. Crazy scene then was very underground and very different to now, it has come so far. I started a plumbing and maintenance business when I was young and I grew it to having quite a few staff, then in 2011 I lost everything, this was a huge life lesson.

I then decided to try again and started a new plumbing company in 2013 with just a backpack of tools on, and getting the bus and tube around as I couldn’t afford a van. I slowly built it up to 5 vans, 2 office staff and our own plumbers merchants. Very proud of that comeback.

I attended London Sound Academy and after I graduated my final course from there in 2024 I decided to hand the reins to my business over and step away from the business and concentrate fully on my music. My passion, I found my own studio in Hackney Wick and started to work here 9am to 6pm every day, this was now my full time job. I work super hard in the studio and I think the work ethic I have learned from my business life has really helped me in my approach to my music career.

Vents Magazine: What are 7 albums to know you?

Banny Decks: 7 musical influences have been: Sub focus, Goldie, Stevie Wonder, shy fx, m beat, chase and status, deadmau5.

Vents Magazine: What are your thoughts on the drum and bass music scene currently?

Banny Decks: I’m loving the way the scene is evolving, there’s more opportunity now than ever before for drum and bass artists. When I was growing up you wouldn’t hear garage or drum and bass in the public domain really. It wasn’t played on mainstream radio, only pirate radio and underground. I think that this has opened drum and bass up to so many different listeners on so many levels, and as an artist I find this gives me more room to be creative and original within the genre as there is a much more wide spectrum of listeners now.

Vents Magazine: What made you decide to step away from your plumbing business to pursue music full-time? How has the transition been?

Banny Decks: I have always loved my music and making music is something that I have always been interested in doing as a job but never taken the leap. I actually owe it to one of my friends who gave up alcohol and went into recovery from addiction. We were in Nando’s and he said to me that he wanted to grab life with both hands and do something he had always dreamed of and push more for his personal goals and dreams.

This really resonated with me and made me think a lot, and I held on to that so much and 2 months later I stepped away from the business and went full steam into my music.

I feel that this has always been my calling and purpose and finally I’m pursuing my true path, never been more happy and loving every moment, each little piece of success means so much to me.

Vents Magazine: Congratulations on the release of your new single, “You Got That Something”. What’s the meaning/message behind the song?

Banny Decks: I made this track to celebrate all of the people in the world who have that something special, that little thing that makes them stand out from the crowd. People are so fascinating and I love meeting different people all of the time. It always makes me smile when people tell me their hobbies, quirks and interesting things about them. The human race is amazing and we are all different in our own ways.

Vents Magazine: Walk us through your production process…

Banny Decks: I never overthink my production; I always just make what sounds right at the time. With this one I wanted the vocal to be super catchy and fun, but also to tie it in with a nice bassline that gets people moving. I kept the drums simple but punchy. I really enjoyed making this one, it’s one of them tracks that when you make it you can sit back and enjoy it, almost like looking at a finished painting that you’ve done, this track really made me smile.

Vents Magazine: Who are some artists or producers you’d love to work with in the future and why?

Banny Decks: I’m really enjoying how my growth is progressing right now, and I would love to work with some other artists for sure. I know we have reached out to a few well-known artists, but I have left that to my label and management, some great names have been mentioned and I’m excited to work with any of them. As it stands I’m just enjoying the process and the journey one step at a time. I love making tracks with a vocal on, and I’m currently working with a couple of female vocalists and one male vocalist for future releases. I’m really excited about “hearts in the sky” that just dropped, and even more excited about “break my fall” to drop in Feb. The vocals on these tracks are great; I just love working with other amazing talents.

Vents Magazine: For those that may be new to your music, other than your new single pick three songs in your discography to listen to first and why?

Banny Decks: “HEARTS IN THE SKY” – just released just over a week ago.

“BREAK MY FALL” is out Feb 10th – this one is a banger.

And a curveball “FAME” – I love this track but we didn’t really promote it, but it’s great. I made this one about people who feel under pressure from social media and the need to conform in the public eye. Has a good video too.

Vents Magazine: What do you have in store for 2026? What can fans expect?

Banny Decks: Lots more music lined up, playing lots of gigs, and expect to hear and see a lot more of me.
