INTERVIEW: ForeignWolf

1.)   We’re super-excited to have some time today with acclaimed Northern Ireland heavy rock combo extraordinaire ForeignWolf; greetings and salutations gang and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you all say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive readers?

Hey I’m Gerard, Lead Vocalist and Guitarist for ForeignWolf.

Thank you Vents for having us, I’m Dave, Lead Guitarist and Back In Vocals.

Hey I’m Conor, Bassist and Baffled.

Hey I’m Max, I play the Drums and teach everyone how to play their instruments.

2.) Major kudos and accolades on your fiery new single and companion music video Imposter Syndrome which is set to light up record charts from here to Timbuktu when it drops this January 23! Gerard, can you talk about what inspired one of the very best new tunes of 2026?

Our songs almost always come from our personal experiences, but we’re very intentional about shaping them in a way that anyone can connect with. Imposter Syndrome taps into that constant undercurrent of self-doubt — those moments when all you want is for your mind to quiet down, but instead you’re stuck battling a version of yourself you don’t want to acknowledge, or that feels like it’s waiting to break through. There wasn’t really a single light-bulb moment behind the song; it’s more about an ongoing, everyday struggle that I think everyone faces in some form. I just wanted to put that feeling into words and give it a voice.

3.) Dave, who handled the producing side of things on Imposter Syndrome and what did the in-studio collaboration between artists and producer look like while fashioning and shaping this new gem of a ditty?

We have always recorded with our good friend and honorary “fifth member” Josh from JSR Audio, and this time was no different. We like to go into the studio with essentially a bare bones track. It has a direction, and an on-paper structure but nothing is off limits. Josh has a fantastic ability to take your song and make it sound more like you. There are elements that he can hear outside of what we have brought to him, and he can introduce them without stepping on anyone’s toes. Our main takeaway for any song though is can we play it live? In the studio it is easy to get carried away, adding layers of harmony, extra guitar parts etc. but at the end of the day we need to be able to play this on stage. We have found a great dynamic working with Josh that allows the track to sound its absolute best whilst maintaining functionality.

4.) Conor, in your humble opinion, what differentiates the Imposter Syndrome single from the Distinguished Competition on the current day music scene?

I think the track at its core captures the infectious energy of Y2K-era metalcore; consistently heavy but never at the expense of melody. Always and forever catchy. And of course you have to have the big anthemic chorus. But there’s a tasteful modern smattering of Djent thrown in there too for good measure. We really wore ALL our influences on our sleeve for this one. Lyrically it’s a concept that anyone who’s always struggled to fit in or doubted their abilities can relate to. We have to remember there’s a younger version of ourselves inside all of us that would be so proud of how far we’ve all come. This one is for them.

5.) Max, alongside the January 23 release of the new single, a companion music video for Imposter Syndrome is also being released – Congratulations! How involved was ForeignWolf in the overall look and feel of this striking and beautiful music video?

ForeignWolf couldn’t haven’t been more hands on with the making of the Imposter Syndrome music video. From being shot in one of our garages to being filmed by a family member of the band, and then the entire thing being edited by our singer Gerard. It’s a total DIY process and although it’s not Hollywood, we love the result. Being able to have complete control over the way our videos turn out is a rewarding experience, and not having to make compromises means we can have fun with the process!

6.) Gerard, word ‘round industry campfire has it that, hot on the heels of the eagerly anticipated Imposter Syndrome single and its accompanying music video, ForeignWolf is gearing up to release their new EP Merely Mortal on Friday, April 3; major congrats again! Can you give audiophiles a hint or three as to what they can expect and look forward to with this new release?

This collection of songs really represents what we feel people have come to expect from us, and we’re excited to finally be able to deliver it. There’s a constant push and pull throughout the EP — our quieter, more introspective moments going head-to-head with the loud, rabid energy we’ve grown to love. Merely Mortal is a blend of everything we’ve wanted to share, and I think we’ve captured that balance. Listeners can expect crushing guitars, shattering bass, intense drumming, aggressive vocals, and just enough of our softer side woven in to keep things dynamic.

7.) Dave, what does the touring/performing dance card look like for ForeignWolf in the coming days and weeks?

We ended 2025 on a very high note, playing two of Belfast’s biggest venues, so it is going to be hard to top that. Currently we are organising our first show of 2026 which will be the Launch Show for Merely Mortal in late March early April. We really want to showcase ourselves across Ireland this year. There are so many amazing towns and cities right on our doorstep that often get overlooked when it comes to organising a Tour. Ireland as a whole is just incredible to visit, so adding the extra benefit of playing shows will make for one hell of a tour.

8.) Conor, with the new single set to drop and a full-fledged EP entitled Merely Mortal making its debut in April, might fans need to keep an eye out for a potential LP release from ForeignWolf in ‘26?

For now this will be our sole release of 2026….however we are always working on new material, with plenty of ideas cooking away. And we can’t wait until these fully develop to share with everyone. It’s amazing to be in a band where every member seems to take a step up in their ability with each release. So we’re extremely excited to see where we go next.

9.) Max, as we noted at the top, ForeignWolf hails from the beautiful country of Northern Ireland. How do those specific roots inform the music which you and your fellow bandmates create and perform?

Being from Northern Ireland, and Belfast in particular, has a big influence on ForeignWolf. The metal scene here is small which means it’s easy to fall into familiar sounds, so we’ve always felt an urge to push beyond that and carve out something that feels genuinely our own. This environment forces us to be more intentional and more experimental. Our aim with the EP was to take our roots and inspirations and channel them into something fresh, uncompromising, and distinctive rather than blending into what’s already been done.

10.) Gerard, any final thoughts you might like to share with readers and music aficionados regarding ForeignWolf and all the exciting plans the band has on the horizon?

This year is shaping up to be a huge one for us, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who’s supported ForeignWolf along the way. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on and bring you along for everything that’s coming next. While we’re keeping some details under wraps for now, just know that this EP marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band and we’re only getting started!
