Peppermint Heaven has returned with their synth-pop wrapped in blistering overhead lasers and atmospheric sub drops. Nothing More Than Love (The Remixes) provides a grouping of four tracks that each push the glossiness of the original into progressively heavier territory. The LA-based pair have handed their original to a sharp lineup of producers who can reshape it to better mark the air of a high-cap, late-night venue.
Kue makes the first impression, building on a relentless breakbeat groove and cyberpunk-tinged soundscapes that culminate in a climax of chopped vocals. The key here is the unshakeable momentum from start to finish.
The trio of reimaginings from Happy Robot Army take a different approach, more unpredictable, ebbing and flowing between higher highs and more subdued sections. Restless, playful, and full of surprises, the sound couldn’t possibly be contained in a singular track, so the three are well deserved.
Known predominantly for a neon-lit, 80s-inspired writing, ‘Nothing More Than Love’ was already a thumping track to pluck from Peppermint Heaven’s discography, but one which well represents the reason for their cult following. The collaboration between Juno and Spark has earned widespread praise for their retro-pop. With listeners of Spotify and followers on TikTok, they nod to both their roots and the wider electronic world they continue to explore.
