GILSKA sends ‘Santa Baby’ into the future

At the end of strong praise and sparse release year from the Sri Lankan-British artist GILSKA, she’s wrapping up the year with something for the festive season. So far in 2025, she’s picked up national radio and glowing reviews, gathering fans around her mix of emotional depth and club-ready dynamism.

Youth classical foundations have morphed into electronic pop with a cinematic magnetism. Spotlighted around the world and performing at major events, the momentum is set to continue in 2026.

‘Santa Baby’ is the Christmas cover of choice, but this is no normal, plain Jane re-hashing of a classic. GILSKA pulls the familiar tune into hyperpop territory, sharpening its edges with glitchy vocal chops and an intense synthesised production. Bolder, louder and fantastically new, it’s biting soundscape and atmospheric flare-ups, hit with a percussive weight. Sudden and often unexpected, its futuristic adrenaline shot is nonetheless playful and sleek, as we’ve come to expect from GILSKA.

“I wanted to take something classic and turn it completely on its head,” says Gilska. “Santab Baby is iconic, but I felt it could shine in a new, chaotic, hyperpop world, full of distorted synths, glitchy vocals, and energy that makes it feel alive in 2025.”
