grandson shares cover of Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War”

Los Angeles-based rocker grandson (aka Jordan Benjamin) released his highly praised third studio album INERTIA via XX Records/Create Music earlier this year which saw support from the likes of Hit Parader, Talkhouse, FLOOD, Kerrang!, and more and today he’s back with the album’s final bonus track – his powerful rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Master of War.”

“Coming off the back of my new record INERTIA I wanted to add my signature sound of heavy riff, angry alternative rock to the defining political folk song of the 20th century- Bob Dylan’s ‘Masters Of War,’” shares Jordan. “As I grow to embrace my place in the history of political rock and roll I wanted to pay homage to the greats, take an older song and recontextualize it for the modern day resistance. The sound is different and heavier but the lyrics echo through time, more true today than ever.”

INERTIA marked grandson’s first independent release and sees him making music his way on his own terms. Outspoken, unfiltered and raw, the album challenges the social, technological and political norms of today with the driving guitars and heavy drums that make this grandson’s most honest and sharp record to date. “This record is what grandson is all about,” Jordan says. “It is urgent storytelling for the modern feelings of isolation and disillusion, it is violent and haunting and serious and sarcastic stories that are both personal but also collected through my community, it’s a revitalization of the heavy riff based rock I love, it’s not metal but it isn’t post punk or hardcore it’s a sweet spot of melody and pocket, mosh and stop and listen, hip hop and rock and roll, I think it exists quite on its own in the modern landscape of rock and I think that’s a good thing, I love it, my fans love it, I hope you’ll love it too.”

grandson’s releases have garnered over 12M views across the new videos and landed grandson a cover feature on Kerrang! INERTIA, produced by Mike Crossey (The Killers, The 1975, Twenty One Pilots, YUNGBLUD), marks an urgent, unfiltered chapter for Jordan as an artist and songwriter, operating on his own terms and speaking truth to power. He’s an artist to be admired for both his unwavering social commentary and heartbreaking true life stories – he goes darker, harder, and is more uncompromising than ever before.

grandson has celebrated the release of the new record with a massive North American headlining tour – which has seen him perform across major cities like San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Brooklyn, Toronto and more. He’s got a few final tour dates before he wraps up the year – see the remaining dates below! For tickets and more information, please visit https://grandsonmusic.com/

grandson continues to exercise his voice to create positive change and lead by example through fundraising and advocacy. He has stood for the rights of artists to express their politics onstage in the New York Times, on the CBC and as a featured speaker on BBC radio, and through grassroots performances across Europe and California, raising thousands for the LGBT Center at a recent sold-out show in east Los Angeles and for War Child UK at a London gig that sold out in minutes.
