Birdsong

MYND READER Returns with “Birdsong,” a Soul-Stirring, Soaring Rock Resurrection out October 31

There’s something wild and alive pulsing beneath MYND READER’s latest single, “Birdsong.” Released on October 31 via Merchant Records, the track feels less like a song and more like an awakening: a lush, cinematic rock odyssey that cracks open the heart and lets the light pour through.

Built on soaring guitars, swelling strings, and Brian Sachs’ muscular percussion, “Birdsong” moves like a storm breaking over quiet waters. It starts in hushed reflection and blooms into a towering anthem, anchored by vocalist/guitarist Shelby Kemp’s raspy-drenched delivery. By the final refrain, “We live on and on and on,” it’s not just sound. It’s transcendence.

‘Birdsong’ is about the cycles of life,” says Sachs, the band’s lyricist, drummer and cofounder. “It’s a sonic reflection on growth, heartbreak, and the redemptive power of connection. You can’t give without receiving, can’t love without breaking, can’t heal without feeling.

The song’s cinematic string arrangement—something Sachs says he “heard before we ever tracked it”—wraps the band’s Southern-rock grit in something tender and eternal. “They give the song its wings,” he says. “The way everything rises together at the end…it feels like the sound of a soul breaking free.

It’s no wonder “Birdsong” sounds so alive. The single was mixed by seven-time GRAMMY® winner Michael Brauer, the sonic architect behind My Morning Jacket, Coldplay, Aretha Franklin, and The Rolling Stones. Brauer brings his signature analog warmth and wide-screen clarity, polishing the track without sanding off its raw edge. The result is a sound that lands somewhere between The Black Crowes’ sweat-soaked swagger, Radiohead’s atmospheric lift, and Wilco’s weathered soul.

But MYND READER isn’t interested in revival. They’re building something new from the bones of what rock once was. Their sound fuses blues, Americana, and alt-rock into something both timeless and urgent, a reminder that authenticity still cuts through the noise.

Formed through friendship and shared vision, MYND READER is a collective with chemistry you can feel. Sachs, a veteran of New York City’s early ’90s funk-rock scene, played hundreds of shows with his former band The Authority, sharing stages with Phish and Dave Matthews Band before relocating to Boulder, Colorado. There, he reconnected with guitarist/producer Tonin in 2022, sparking a creative wildfire that pulled in Kemp, a powerhouse vocalist steeped in Southern smoke and soul.

From that spark came a streak of powerful singles. Gaining not only critical acclaim but also a loyal fan base, the new songs saw a steady rise through the Triple A and Americana charts, including Radio Warning topping at #24 on Billboard’s Rock Chart and Simply Avanti charting on the AAA Billboard chart. Their latest singles continue this momentum, following the success of the recently released Home,” which climbed to #2 on the SMR Rock Chart, and Mourning Lightthat cracked the Billboard AAA chart this month, debuting at #122.

Each track showcases the band’s ability to combine textured arrangements, blues-infused grit, and soulful melodies that evoke timeless rock energy with a modern sensibility. To date, the band has amassed hundreds of thousands of streams, 100,000 YouTube subscribers, and overall 50,000+ social followers, establishing themselves as one of rock’s most exciting new voices.

We’re not chasing trends,” Sachs says. “We’re chasing truth. Every song has to mean something, to us, to the people in the crowd. When we play live, it’s not about perfection; it’s about connection.

That connection is central to the MYND READER ethos. The band calls their shows “the church of rock and roll,” not as a gimmick, but as a gathering. “When people leave our shows, we want them lifted, united, singing our prayer—more life, please,” Sachs adds.

That’s what “Birdsong” delivers: more life. It’s spiritual but grounded, nostalgic yet new; a resurrection hymn dressed in distortion and heart.

With their full-length debut set for release on January 30, 2026, MYND READER is entering a new chapter; one that feels less like a comeback and more like a calling. “Birdsong” is the sound of a band stepping fully into its purpose, stitching together pain and hope into something that soars.

MYND READER’s “Birdsong” drops October 31 on all major streaming platforms. Turn it up, close your eyes, and let it take you somewhere.
