Returning to the limelight for the first time in over two years, Jen Lush looks to reaffirm herself as a striking alternative talent as she draws back the curtain on her new double single ‘Wolf & The Dog / Black Wing’. A mesmerizing double-pack, filled with blues, folk, mystery, and truth, the project promises exciting things to come from the Australian-born artist.
A release split across two tracks, both ‘Wolf & The Dog’ and ‘Black Wing’ highlight the intrinsic nature of Jen Lush’s artistry. The former begins with a rich, bluesy riff, before Lush’s soothing vocal takes to the melody like a hot knife through butter. Leaning into the likes of Led Zeppelin and early Fleetwood Mac, though with the ease and gentle beauty of the likes of Pentangle and Jade, the track’s dynamics allow it to spread its wings, naturally. Following on from this, ‘Black Wing’ kicks off with a more whimsical attitude, its roots embedded in folk-rock and mystique, navigating inner peace and clarity.
Speaking about Black Wing, she explains, “Black Wing was born in solitude on a writing retreat, sparked by the loss of a Black Wing pencil and the discovery of a lone black cockatoo feather in an open field. A meditation on impermanence and letting go, it was written with an ordinary pencil, in a quietly extraordinary moment.”
