INTERVIEW: Karin Ann

1.) We’re very happy to be speaking today with acclaimed genre-defying songwriter and storyteller Karin Ann; greetings and salutations Karin Ann and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive down the Q&A music-lined rabbit hole, how is the latter-half of 2025 finding you and yours?

thank you for having me! if i’m being honest, the last few weeks haven’t been great due to some personal matters but i don’t want to talk about all that

2.) Major kudos and accolades on your stunner of a new single i was never yours which is lighting up record charts even as we speak! Starting at the top, can you talk about what inspired this wistful gem of a ditty?

just experiences i’ve been through haha! all my music comes from my life or the life around me

3.) Listening to i was never yours, we can pick up the sweet notes of folk, country, and rock, all folded into one another to create something which at once feels familiar and alternately shiny and new. If hard-pressed, how would you define your indelible musical stylings?

i wouldn’t, people always try asking me and i always say the same thing – i create whatever is authentic to me at the time of creating, and that’s not going to change

4.) Who did the producing honors on i was never yours and what did the in-studio collaboration between artist and producer look like while fashioning the new song?

i worked on it with a producer i’ve been working with for about 3 years now – benjamin lazar davis! it’s also co-written with suki waterhouse, harrison whitford and chelsea balan. this song has a very soecial place in my heart not only because i was able to collaborate with some incredible people but also because i finally felt comfortable and free enough to co create the production

5.) In your humble opinion, what differentiates i was never yours from the Distinguished Competition on the current day music landscape?

all artists bring something unique to their work, all artists have a certain signature whether they realize it or not therefore no 2 pieces of work are ever the same

6.) In the wake of the release of i was never yours, can fans look forward to catching you on the touring/performingcircuit in the coming weeks and months?

we’re in the process of carefully planning a couple shows for next year but i don’t want to focus on touring as much, life on tour doesn’t really agree with my physical and mental health so as much as i love playing shows, i need to make sure i’m able to stay on top of my health so the show schedule is going to be a bit more scattered. i also want to focus on other creative ventures which are not possible if i’m constantly on the road.

7.) Hot on the heels of the release of the new single, can you give fans a hint or three as to what you have coming up as far as music releases go? Should we keep eyes and ears peeled for a possible EP release in ‘26?

i’m always working on something new, all i can say people should keep an eye out and they’ll be able to catch everything new that’s coming

8.) When you’re not turning the proverbial, world on its ear with your out-of-this-world music offerings, you’re known and respected as an actress – Congrats! Is it difficult to juggle two passions such as acting and music, or do you feel that each sort of feeds the other, fuel-wise?

i always loved both music and acting, my absolute dream is musical theatre, it combines both music and acting, which i haven’t been able to try professionally yet and it’s something that i’m really hoping to get to do.

9.) As a singer and songwriter, which generally tends to come first for you – The lyrics or the music? Or is it a bit more organic than all that?

it depends on the song, ideas come and go in all sorts of forms, all i can do id try capturing them

10.) At the end of the day, what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin to your beautiful new single i was never yours?

i hope they feel a sense of freedom and the knowing that they can choose what to do with their life, no one should decide for you but yourself
