Christina Gaudet Releases New Album

New Orleans native and longtime New York resident Christina Gaudet is an award-winning artist with roots in the theater, and a 20-year background in music that has taken here there and back, and her latest album Rockforte is already up for Grammy considerations in multiple categories. The album consists of Gaudet on all vocals, with brothers John Zych on keyboard and guitar, and Matt Zych on guitar, with Gaudet and John Zych sharing engineering duties together in New York. Rockforte features eight well-crafted pieces of Rock with soulful vocals and Pop laden arrangements, and a sense of shooting for the stars.

This album brings with it some tales and universal observations, as the songs capitulate a higher sense of being without attachments brought on by everyday life in modern times. “Rockforte” is the opening track, which gets the whole album concept up and running with equally good music and words to follow it. The first song finds Gaudet in her element, which anyone knowing her music will agree, as “Fire In The Belly” brings the same level of expertise in songwriting and studio performing, which leaves you floored by her talent, knowing Gaudet’s back catalog or not, it entices for more discovery either way.

Not previously being familiar with Gaudet, I still get a rejuvenating vibe that feels like I’ve heard her before, but it probably just comes from her vocal dynamics, unmatched phrasing and color in these songs. “Fire In The Belly” has the same heat as the title track, keeping the groove intact as it moves with a sense of purpose and opens the next one. “Hot Lover” is another warm number with as much going for it as anything on Rockforte, including the album’s finest moments. At this point you know an album is going somewhere and you can’t wait to hear song after song.

“Startrecking” is one of the singles in which Gaudet takes the high road and delivers with flying colors on a most contagious track to behold. You might feel it is mainstream, but it’s just written, produced and arranged with the best of ‘em, so it can seem safer than it is. What this song is not, is a dud, and that’s a safer bet for sure. And “Sterling” presents itself as the exquisite intermediate piano friendly ballad worth writing all the way home about on Rockforte

Listeners and fans will also love the other songs on the album, and this point is where the soothing sounds of Gaudet’s voice penetrates on key to the ears with absolute grace on the epic “Skybridge” which gets my attention more than anything on Rockforte and finds my favorite number, along with the title track. Everything about this song checks the boxes and then some. And when you end with “Possibilities” you start over with a positive attitude, and pushing the repeat button is the only thing left to do after another Rockforte outing to find Christina Gaudet to be everything as described when releasing music of this caliber happens.
