Predicting The 2025-26 NHL Season

It’s about time for another NHL season! Which means it is time for me to do some predicting in terms of final standings! I will be rooting for a couple things this season. My beloved Red Wings making the playoffs, and the Panthers not making it to the Stanley Cup Finals. I don’t like dynasties in sports, and the Panthers have won two titles in a row. It’ll be a while until I am not actively rooting against Florida, and even longer until I warm up to the idea of them winning the title. So now, onto my predictions for the standing for the 2025-26 NHL season.

Eastern Conference

Atlantic Division

Tampa Bay Lightning

Florida Panthers

Toronto Maple Leafs

Montreal Canadiens

Detroit Red Wings

Ottawa Senators

Boston Bruins

Buffalo Sabres

Metropolitan Division

Carolina Hurricanes

New Jersey Devils

Washington Capitals

New York Rangers

New York Islanders

Columbus Blue Jackets

Pittsburgh Penguins

Philadelphia Flyers

Western Conference

Central Division

Dallas Stars

Colorado Avalanche

Winnipeg Jets

Utah Mammoth

Minnesota Wild

St. Louis Blues

Nashville Predators

Chicago Blackhawks

Pacific Division

Vegas Golden Knights

Edmonton Oilers

Los Angeles Kings

Vancouver Canucks

Calgary Flames

Anaheim Ducks

San Jose Sharks

Seattle Kraken

The top three teams in each division make the playoffs, plus two wild cards. In the East, I think the wild cards will be the Canadiens and the Rangers, leaving the Red Wings on the outside looking in. In the West, I am going with the Mammoth and the Wild. That means only three teams from the Pacific Division.

That just leaves the Stanley Cup Finals. I don’t think either the Panthers or the Oilers return. I think Carolina finally gets over the hump and makes the finals. While I don’t have Colorado winning its division, Dallas has a new head coach, and I wonder if that makes a different in the playoffs. Thus, I have the Avalanche facing the Hurricanes in the finals. Your Stanley Cup champions? Nathan MacKinnon and company get a second ring. It’s the Avalanche to win it all.
