Morris Bart: A Lawyer Who Prioritizes His Community

Byline: Wyles Daniel

As a lawyer, Morris Bart is hardly conventional. By traditional legal standards, he likely wasn’t meant to succeed, but by trusting his instincts, challenging the rules, and staying loyal to everyday people, he built a firm that creates a genuine impact. Bart has always loved helping others, and despite operating in a competitive industry, he remains focused on giving back through his work.

A Firm for the Community

From the beginning, Bart’s goal in the legal world has been helping those around him. Upon launching his firm, he was disappointed in the ways that major firms would gatekeep legal help from the working-class people who truly needed it. Somehow, they made it seem like a law firm couldn’t be visible, relatable, and community-focused—not all at once. Rather than give in to the norm, Bart looked to his father’s example.

“A really great piece of advice that helped me with my career was also one of my father’s favorite quotes,” Bart shared. “He used to say, ‘Early to bed, early to rise. Work like hell, and advertise!’ That stuck with me, and I think it sums up what you have to do to be successful.”

Changing an Industry’s Perspective

It can be difficult for a young lawyer to get their name out there, but Bart defied convention by following his father’s advice. He became one of the first legal advertisers in America through sheer determination, but soon faced a new challenge. Many legal professionals opposed Bart’s advertising methods, which was enough for him to fight to make his voice heard.

“I had to fight through many lawsuits, hearings, discussions, etc. to prove not only my constitutional right to advertise,” Bart stated, “but that I was providing a needed service to lower-income people. Eventually, the legal establishment began to embrace and accept my law firm.”

Growth, Awards, and Accolades

By overcoming the forces opposing his growth as a lawyer, Bart was able to build his firm and help numerous people along the way. He and his team help thousands of clients annually and actively give back to their community. For his contributions to the field, Bart has been named a Super Lawyer, a Million-Dollar Advocate, and Gambit Weekly’s “Best Attorney.”

Additionally, Bart received a “Leadership in Law” award from New Orleans City Business.

Philanthropic Contributions

Always one to focus on the people, Bart considers his most meaningful achievements to be philanthropic ones. He has worked as an assistant district attorney in the New Orleans District Attorney’s office and established the Cathy and Morris Bart Volunteer Center at Second Harvest Food Bank. Ultimately, Bart is grateful to New Orleans for helping him achieve his dreams and works to give back where he can.

“I feel very blessed that I can give back to the community that has given so much to me,” Bart said.

Plans for the Future

Moving forward, Bart plans to expand his firm and the scope of its services. He has already succeeded in building a large team and now helps with storm and injury claims. With no plans to retire soon, Bart loves what he does for his community and intends to continue helping others in every way he can.
