Today we’re pleased to join forces with Ben Eisenberger for the release of his new single “Controlling” off his new album Ben Eisenberger Chamber Group.
The song captures the intimate, minimalist guitar and vocal of work of the classically trained performer from which the record derives its name effortless swells into delicately lush, airy and elegant chamber-folk rich in emotional nuance and poetic lyricism. Carefully composed, layered arrangements gently embrace Eisenberger’s pensive vocals, weaving together into a softly hypnotic, contemplative whole.
About the song, Ben comments “Controlling” was written in a dark time for me – it’s the culmination of the aftermath of a breakup, and just analyzing my behavior and my feelings toward the situation. I’m often times hypercritical of myself but I think for good reason, and the lyrics go in and out between myself and a sort of exaggerated version of myself and what I think my behavior toward other people is. Am I trying to make someone fall in love with me on purpose? Am I accusing other people of doing the same things that I do myself?
This track is the perfect example of the Ben Eisenberger Chamber Group, as the bulk of the recording consists of just us five players. The free and improvisatory aspect of the music lends itself to the chaos of the lyrics, and the sort of whimsical, nursery rhyme-esque melody adds a sort of creepy vibe.”
