His inspirations are personal and artistic. Hakeem draws strength from his cousin Khadijah and her husband Saadiq, as well as his parents, who model a grounded, joyful partnership. Musically, he looks to vocal powerhouses like Tank, Maxwell, Usher, Jamie Foxx, David Ruffin, and Marvin Gaye. “They sung their songs so effortlessly,” he says, aspiring to capture that same ease as a singer-songwriter. While financial success in the industry is a goal, Hakeem’s true aim is to be part of the conversation with these legends—a mark of artistic respect he considers “top tier.”
