The start of the 2025 MLB season has made one thing seem pretty clear: The Colorado Rockies are in as bleak a situation as just about any sporting franchise.
Sure, it was expected the Rockies would be bad, but they have been terrible. In fact, they have been the worst team in MLB. Even worse than the White Sox, who lost a record number of games in 2024. This is not all that surprising, though. The 2025 campaign will likely be the third in a row wherein the team loses over 100 games. They lost 94 the year before that. The Rockies haven’t had a winning record since 2018, a year wherein they made the playoffs. They also got swept in the first round. The team has “made the playoffs” five times, though one of those times say them lose the brief, one-game wild-card play-in.
The Rockies debuted in 1993, and they haven’t had a winning record in any decade. Beyond that, the roster right now is bad. They lack for prospects or stars compared to most teams. Pitching at Coors Field is exceedingly hard, but the team has failed to make up for that with offensive firepower in years. The Rockies don’t have the high points in its history that the White Sox do. The Sharks have been to a Stanley Cup Final and made plenty of playoff appearances, and they have young talent right now. Maybe the Cleveland Browns can feel something similar, but that’s just in the new millennium. Once upon a time they were storied franchise.
The Colorado Avalanche have had great success. So have the Denver Broncos. The Denver Nuggets won their first title recently and have one of the best players of all-time at present. The Colorado Rockies? Well, they are easy to forget about, and best forgotten.
