Scooby-Doo and the gang are no strangers to team-ups. They did it all the time on television, bringing in everybody from the Harlem Globetrotters to the Addams Family to Dick Van Dyke. In their direct-to-video movies, they do plenty of teaming up as well, especially with professional wrestlers. However, Scooby-Doo and Mystery Inc. have also done plenty of teaming up in the comics. In fact, there was an entire team-up series done by DC Comics.
Since the Scooby-Doo Team-Up comics are DC offerings, it’s not surprising that many DC superheroes, and super villains, are in the mix. Batman, sure, but also The Flash and Harley Quinn and Doom Patrol. Then, there are the cartoon-y team-ups. Yogi Bear makes plenty of sense, and Magilla Gorilla doesn’t surprise us. The Jetsons and the Flintstones are of similar vintage. There are some interesting offerings, though.
For example, Scooby, Shaggy, and the crew team up with Jonah Hex. Now, you may only know him, if you know him at all, from the flop film starring Josh Brolin. However, Jonah Hex is a comic book character. Hex is a bounty hunter who was a soldier during the Civil War. Um, a Confederate soldier. Yes, Scooby teamed up with a Confederate veteran.
Speaking of baddies, in another offering the Scooby Gang teams up with Dick Dastardly and Muttley. In another one they team up with Penelope Pitstop, also from Wacky Races, but that tracks better. Secret Squirrel is a talking animal, but he’s a pretty esoteric choice.
On the esoteric choice front, the most interesting is the team-up with Space Ghost. Now, you may know Space Ghost from the cult classic Adult Swim show Space Ghost Coast to Coast. However, this is the sincere, superhero version of Space Ghost. They brought back the old-school Space Ghost, the one most people didn’t know, and may still not know.
We don’t know how many jokes about Scooby and Shaggy eating there are in the mix. We assume the Yogi one is packed to the brim with pic-a-nic baskets, though.
