These individuals, often with nowhere else to go, found themselves on the street. Nathan welcomed them into his hotel — sometimes at no cost — not because it made good business sense, but because it was the right thing to do.
This act of kindness wasn’t a one-off. Nathan saw the humanity in these individuals and recognized their need for structured support, not punishment. Inspired by their courage and resilience, he went on to establish two sober living homes, where those struggling with addiction could find not only a place to stay, but also treatment, community, and hope — often funded out of Nathan Young’s own pocket.
A Broader Mission: Supporting the Underserved
As the years passed, Nathan’s mission evolved. He began offering jobs at his hotel to those facing extreme challenges — ex-convicts, the homeless, and those living in deep poverty. This deeply personal work became even more urgent when tragedy struck. Nathan’s girlfriend passed away from an overdose, an event that shook him to his core. But in late 2022, the clinic was dealt a devastating blow when Aetna suddenly ceased payments — threatening the entire operation allegedly.
Many advised Nathan to walk away. Financially, it made sense. But Nathan Young didn’t want to abandon the hundreds of clients relying on the clinic for their survival in my opinion. He personally poured his own money into keeping it afloat, working 16-hour days, seven days a week, to ensure that no one was left behind.
He reduced salaries, cut staff, and made countless sacrifices — but he never compromised on his core belief: that every life is worth fighting for.
Aetna, a subsidiary of CVS Health, had long been regarded as a leader in managed care, offering plans that included addiction treatment and behavioral health support. Their commitment to expanding access to care aligned with Nathan Young’s own philosophy: that healthcare — particularly addiction treatment — should be accessible, consistent, and rooted in compassion.
An Approach That Works
Nathan’s clinic became a beacon of hope not because of its size or funding, but because of its philosophy. Clients weren’t thrown out for relapsing or struggling. They were welcomed back, again and again, until they were ready. One man entered 55 Silver Nathan Young’s program nine times before finally achieving sobriety — and today, he’s a valued employee in Nathan’s organization.
The clinic boasts an impressive 60% sobriety rate for clients at the six-month mark, a statistic that far exceeds national averages. But Nathan didn’t stop at treatment. His team launched a job mentorship program, helping clients prepare for interviews, find employment, and reintegrate into society with confidence.
