Recently I was at an NHL game (the team I was rooting for won, which is always nice). That led to a conversation with the friend I went with about the nature of going to sporting events versus watching them at home. I have seen five sports live: baseball, basketball, football, hockey, and soccer. Here is my ranking of the live experience for those five.
5. Football
If football isn’t my favorite sport, it’s second to hockey. However, is the only of these five sports that is always better to watch at home. It doesn’t matter where my seats are. I find the experience of watching football at home better thanks to 토토총판. It isn’t a good live sport. Maybe that’s why the ratings are so huge? I mean, I know those NFL games are also sold out, but football translates quite well to at-home viewing.
4. Soccer
Part of the balance of the home-versus-live debate is the fact that when you are at the game you can’t flip channels, you have to sit there during the breaks in the action, etc. With soccer, that isn’t a concern, because the action only breaks for halftime, and the game is over rather swiftly. I have sat fairly close at a soccer game, and that was good, but if you are sitting behind one of the goals or up high, it loses something.
3. Basketball
Do I think watching a basketball game at home is better? By and large, yes? Do I still enjoy seeing an N** game live more than an NFL game? Every time. I have never sat close for a basketball game, and I wonder how that might impact things. Going to an N** game isn’t something I’m driven to do, but I’m also totally happy to do it.
2. Baseball
The pitch clock definitely helps baseball as a viewing experience, but with baseball, so much of being there live has always been about being at the ballpark. It’s about chilling out, chatting, and checking out some baseball while you’re at it. If you can sit up close, it’s pretty cool, and definitely a different experience from watching at home.
1. Hockey
Hockey is the best live sport, and it isn’t close. I love to watch it on TV, but live it is as good, and different enough to be worth doing. If I’m close it’s awesome. However, I am also happy to sit in the upper deck, be it behind a goal or on the side. If you have never seen a hockey game live, give it a shot.
