Kevin Bacon Returns to His Horror Roots in Upcoming Amazon Horror Series “The Bondsman”

If there’s one thing veteran actor Kevin Bacon knows well, it’s the horror film genre. Though not primarily a ‘horror movie actor’ (Bacon can boast such non-horror feathers in his acting cap as JFK, Animal House, Murder in the First, Sleepers, Diner, The Big Picture, Footloose, Apollo 13, Mystic River and My Dog Skip, to name but a small few), the times in the past when this Golden Globe winning thespian went swimming in the dark waters of the horror genre have been memorable, to say the least. Who can forget his memorable turn in the original Friday the 13th as a doomed, pot-smoking counsellor? Or his dalliance with super-sized killer worms in Tremors (my personal favorite)? Or what about his turn as a medical student attempting to unlock the secrets of death while jostling with the best the Young Hollywood of 1990 had to offer? Of course, there are others, too: Stir of Echoes and The Hollow Man come instantly to mind, and what was The River Wild other than an A-list horror/thriller co-starring Merryl Streep (yes, that Merryl Streep)? To his good credit, Bacon has never been dismissive of an often-maligned genre of film, going as far as to attempt a fan-approved television revival of Tremors which would have seen him reprise his role of Val from the first film (though a pilot was shot, the series was not picked up…Looking at you here, SYFY Channel. Ahem.). So yes, Bacon knows horror quite well, thank you very much. Which is one of the many reasons why we’re pretty curious about the just-announced new horror series which is set to star the Philadelphia, PA native.

From our A Few Good Men pals over at The Hollywood Reporter comes the news of an upcoming Amazon series called The Bondsman which is set to feature Kevin Bacon as a bounty hunter who is pushing up some serious daisies until he rises Lazarus-lie from the dead in order to capture rogue demons terrorizing the innocent. The man giving him his marching orders? Why it’s none other than Beelzebub himself, The Devil. Surprise!

Of course, seeing is believing, so why take our word for the inane wonkiness of this upcoming series when you can feast your Baby Blues on the actual trailer for the series right here!

The Bondsman is something of a reunion for Bacon and the folks at Amazon: Prior to this new show, Bacon had plowed the Amazon fields in the saucy endeavor known as I Love Dick, and had also explored the world of the boob tube with efforts like 2013’s The Following and the more recent City on a Hill.

Do you love Kevin Bacon as much as we do here at Vents HQ, Ladies and Gents? Then be sure to plant yourself firmly in front of the all-mighty television set (or however you may imbibe your pop culture in ‘25) when all eight super-sized episodes The Bondsman premieres on Prime Video this April 3!
