The California State Capitol

Old Sacramento State Historic Park
Long before it became California’s government and administrative hub, Sacramento was a bustling frontier town. A visit to the Old Sacramento State Historic Park will transport you back to the days of the California gold rush, and it’s a unique experience that should not be missed. The park’s 27 acres and is filled with restored historic buildings, horse-drawn carriages, and actors clad in period attire, and there is even an operating vertical lift bridge.
The California State Railroad Museum
The California State Railroad Museum is one of the five museums located in the Old Sacramento State Historic Park, and it’s the pick of the litter. It features 225,000 square feet of exhibition space filled with historic trains with fully restored interiors, and some of them are still running. If you have the time, you can take an hourlong excursion along the Sacramento Riverfront while you sit in first-class comfort on a working steam train.
Fairytale Town
If you are visiting Sacramento with young kids, a trip to Fairytale Town should definitely be on your to-do list.
