1.) We’re happy to be speaking today with acclaimed independent singer and songwriter Tammy Smith; greetings and salutations Tammy and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive down the Q&A musical rabbit hole, how is the New Year finding you and yours?
Hey! Hey! 2025 is starting off amazing! There is so much to look forward to this year, both personally and professionally!
2.) Major congratulations on your freshly minted new single Someone to Love Me Right which is set to light up record charts across the globe when it premieres this February! Starting at the tip-top, can you talk about what inspired you and co-writer Corey Lee Barker to create this gem of a ditty?
Well, thank you kindly! This song is my personal journey of “choosing the wrong” one in a relationship. After 17 years in an abusive marriage, it wasn’t easy to get back into the current dating scene. After being scammed in the online dating world, I decided to focus on my inner journey of self-love, and my music career. I decided that I would totally wait and not date any longer. Thus, this song was born from that journey.
3.) The rightly lauded Zac Maroof did the producing honors on the Someone to Love Me Right single! What was it like for you to collaborate with Zac on this track?
Zac is insanely talented and a blast to work with! Recording is my most favorite part of the process, He was very patient in allowing me to use my creativity vocally and to make the song mine, while adding his professional opinions to bring it all together.
4.) In your humble opinion, what differentiates Someone to Love Me Right from the Distinguished Competition on the 2025 music scene?
‘Someone To Love Me Right’ is a product of a 40+ year journey that we all find ourselves on in life. For me, it’s different because it’s vulnerable, passionate and a true story of the hardships we face in love and relationships. The focus of the song being on first, loving yourself and knowing who YOU are, then waiting for that to come along without compromising or settling on your values or standards.
5.) Speaking of things to look forward to, what are the chances that fans will have even more amazing music to look forward to from you before the year is out? Could there be a possible EP or LP in your future?
I have been working so hard on my new songs to release for the fans! This is the first of two singles to be released, with a follow up of my six-song EP release in the fall.
6.) Along with being an incredible music artist, you’re also a respected inspirational speaker, vlogger, and social media influencer; congrats! Can you speak to how you became involved with inspirational speaking and why this is a very important facet of who you are as a person?
Again, I appreciate your kind words and encouragement.
Being an inspiration to the world is the biggest part of me and the most important thing that I do. I mentioned earlier I was in a 17-year-long abusive marriage. I endured all of the forms of domestic abuse. It wasn’t until I was choked and nearly died, also nearly losing my voice, that I knew that I had lived for a reason. While in my domestic abuse support group, someone stated they couldn’t get out of bed for 6 months and scrolled social media for hope. THAT became my mission: to share hope on posts and live videos, being authentic in my healing journey. Laughing or crying, make up or none, I knew the world needed to hear and see a journey of being real through the process. After all, I knew how it felt to feel completely alone in that journey. I am determined to touch just ONE life each day.
7.) Who are some of your chief influences both in and out of the world of music?
First of all, my Daddy, who passed away 15 years ago this week during the release of this song. I planned it that way, because he did love me right and set that standard for me to recall. He taught me so much but especially how to work hard and never give up on yourself.
Secondly, it was my Daddy, who inspired my love for country music and raised me on the classics. I definitely have been influenced by Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette, whom I was named after. These country legends sat the bar high for all future females but did it with families. That speaks so much to me being a mom.
8.) As a singer and songwriter, which generally tends to come first for you during the creative process – The lyrics or the music?
For me, the song starts with the lyrics. I get inspired all the time and keep a notebook handy so I can jot down the words. It’s the message that matters most then the music comes. Once there is a message, the music comes in and the process continues until you get it just where you want it.
9.) Any final thoughts you might like to share with readers about your beautiful new single Someone to Love Me Right?
The goal of the song is to reflect and see your own beauty and worth. To thine own self be true, at all costs, even if it means being alone for a while to figure that out. You are your most valuable asset, especially your heart.
The other part of that is my favorite line, “someone who really gets me and sees the beauty deep inside.” I believe it’s the heart and soul that are most beautiful in people and I try to work on that daily, to become the best person I can be, for me. To me, that is beauty: loving yourself as you are, but always growing, sharing kindness and love each day to all that you meet.
The world needs that. LOVE.
