There is no direct accessibility between Tibet and Bhutan due to the lack of flights and accessible ports. However, Nepal acts as a convenient stopover since it connects to both Tibet by plane and land, and to Bhutan by plane.

Here are some travel routes to consider:

  1. International Flight to Nepal: Fly to Nepal as travelers can easily travel to either Tibet or Bhutan. Return to Nepal, and then continue touring to the remaining destination.
  2. Travel to Tibet First: Commence Tibet travel following Nepal and then Bhutan to avoid unnecessary detours.
  3. Alternative Route: Begin from Bhutan following Nepal and then Tibet. This route is also viable and follows a logical sequence.

Bhutan flights are accessible from India, Thailand, Singapore, and Bangladesh besides Nepal. Given these options, Tibet often serves as the more practical starting point for this tour.

Explore all three Himalayan destinations -Nepal, Tibet, or Bhutan choosing different travel routes as your entry point preference.

Best time to Visit

Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan tours are possible throughout the year. However, it is a bit difficult to have perfect weather for all three destinations at the same time. Tibet is best to explore in the months of (June, July, August, and September). The winters are colder and remain closed in February and March.

In contrast, Nepal and Bhutan share sub-tropical climates with four distinct seasons:

  • Spring ‘pre-monsoon’: March, April, May
  • Summer ‘monsoon’: June, July, August
  • Autumn ‘post-monsoon’: September, October, November
  • Winter: December, January, February

For city explorations, any season is suitable. However, April, May, September, October, and November are our suggested best times having good weather across all three destinations.

Nepal Tibet and Bhutan Visa information

Nepal

Nepal is one of the safest and most beautiful South Asian countries to travel to. It is easy to get on-arrival visas for which you need digitally valid documents and a valid passport with 2 blank pages. Visitors can also collect the Visa from the Embassies or Consulates of their home countries instead. Multiple-entry Visas simplify the traveler’s experience which costs USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, and USD 125 for 90 days.

Bhutan

Bhutan also offers online Visas for travelers, which they can collect with the help of authorized tour operators only. For visa processing, they must provide a digital photo and a digital copy of a valid passport. The Visa cost per person is USD 40.

Moreover, travelers must pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), a daily charge levied by the Bhutan Government. It is a practice of sustainable tourism to enhance the country’s development. The SDF effective till September 2027 is USD 100 per person per night which excludes all other travel expenses (accommodation, meals, guide tips, monument fees, etc.)
