The Best Of The Noodle Dishes?

Recently, I had a hankering for some Chinese food. Specifically, American-Chinese food, because of course the Chinese takeout places you and I are accustomed to are doing a specifically variation on Chinese cuisine. I had not had it in forever, but I watched the show Interior Chinatown and it got me in the mood. The show has a lot of scenes in a Chinese restaurant, to explain further. I didn’t just see a bunch of Chinese characters and think to myself, “I need some hot and sour soup.”

Although, the hot and sour soup was kind of whatever, to be honest. The Szechuan veggie dish was not spicy at all. That being said, I did have two really good things. One was egg foo young, which I don’t recall ever having before. However, the star of the show was the lo mein. In terms of noodle dishes, be they Asian or Italian-style pasta, lo mein is as good as anything.

Now, as a caveat, the lo mein was my meal the next day, and thus I left it in the fridge overnight. Then, I ate it cold. Maybe if I had eaten it hot I may have felt differently, but man, that cold vegetable lo mein was delicious. Those noodles are so good, and the sauce they marinated in really brought the flavor. The only element that was a little so-so was the broccoli, but that’s because it was cold. That made it not so toothsome to eat, but the trade off was worth it.

If I get Chinese food again soon, I’ll have to get some lo mein for sure. Plus, I got a ton of it and it was reasonably priced. That’s not easy to find with carry-out these days unfortunately. If you haven’t had lo mein is a while, or have never had it, I’d recommend finding the best Chinese takeout restaurant near you and ordering yourself some.
