Meet Xayne Outlander

Jordan Ward, better known by his stage name Xayne Outlander, was born on August 13th, 2000 in a small Illinois town. Xayne Outlander’s journey to becoming one of the freshest voices in music is a story of passion, persistence, and purpose. Growing up in the golden age of 2000s R&B, Xayne was inspired by the icons who dominated the charts—artists like Chris Brown, Usher, Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, and Rihanna. The influence of legends like Michael Jackson and Motown greats like James Brown, instilled by his mother, gave him a deep appreciation for music as an art form.

But for Xayne, it wasn’t just about listening—he wanted to perform. “Michael Jackson and Chris Brown were my idols,” he recalls. “I wanted to sing and dance like them. I was a huge fan, and they’ve influenced everything I do.”

From an early age, music was an integral part of his life. In elementary school, Xayne played the clarinet in the school band and participated in a Dance and Drama class, where he performed in front of school assemblies. These early experiences gave him the confidence and stage presence that would later define his career.

Finding His Voice

Xayne Outlander’s first foray into music came through rapping. Inspired by his older brother’s poetry, he started writing raps in the third grade, honing his craft through freestyles and rap battles. By the time he reached middle school at age 13, he had decided that music was his calling. But there was one challenge—he couldn’t afford studio equipment.

“I told myself I’d practice until I had what I needed to start making songs,” he says. And practice he did. Throughout middle school and high school, he spent countless hours writing lyrics, rapping, and developing his style.

In high school, Xayne began piecing together studio equipment, cracking FL Studio, and using YouTube tutorials to teach himself how to produce beats. His determination paid off, and in 2018, during his junior year, he released his first single, Ethiopia.

The Breakthrough: Ethiopia

Ethiopia wasn’t just a song—it was a statement. Recognizing the lack of representation for African women in mainstream music, Xayne decided to celebrate them. “A lot of artists would talk about women of other races, but I never heard anything about African women,” he explains. “Instead of complaining, I became the change I wanted to see.”

The song was a minor hit, propelling Xayne’s social media following from just over 100 to thousands. Ethiopian women flooded his Instagram, sharing videos of themselves singing along to the song and sending messages of admiration. Some even proposed marriage.

The success of Ethiopia marked a turning point for Xayne. While many artists in his hometown were rappers with similar sounds, he chose to focus on singing to set himself apart. “Singing opened up way more opportunities for me,” he says. “It’s why I’m a singer now instead of a rapper.”

From Small Town Dreams to Big Opportunities

At just 18 years old, Xayne Outlander had his first major breakthrough when one of his songs was distributed by EMPIRE. In 2023, his EP Hollow was released under Sony Music’s sub-label, The Orchard. And now, with all his music distributed through Roc Nation, he’s solidified his place as a rising star in the industry.

Xayne credits his high school choir experience for his ability to perform with ease. Singing in front of an audience of over 800 students at a pep rally prepared him for the spotlight.

A Star with a Purpose

What sets Xayne Outlander apart is not just his talent but his commitment to using music as a platform for change. His connection to Ethiopia, first established through Ethiopia, continues to influence his work. Songs like Heaven Awot, a tribute to a young Ethiopian girl, show his dedication to raising awareness for important issues.

Now signed under Roc Nation Distribution, Xayne Outlander is not just making waves in the R&B world—he’s creating a legacy. From his small-town beginnings to his current status as a Roc Nation artist, Xayne Outlander’s journey proves that talent, hard work, and a clear sense of purpose can take you anywhere.

“I’ve come a long way from rapping in middle school to releasing music on a global stage,” he reflects. “This is just the beginning.”
