INTERVIEW: Cuban singer-songwriter Eddu Dai’z

1.) We are very excited to speak today with acclaimed Cuban singer and songwriter Eddu Daiz. Happy New Year, Eddu! We wish you a happy new year and welcome you to Vents Magazine! Before we get down to the typical Q&A, how is the New Year treating you and your loved ones?

First, I would like to thank you for the invitation and for the presentation – very nice, really. The truth is that this year has started very well, with health for myself and all my loved ones, which is the most important thing, and full of challenges and new adventures. This year promises a lot – I know it will be a before and after for my personal life and my artistic career.

2.) Many congratulations and praise for your new Latin pop anthem Celosa! Starting with the highlights, can you tell us what inspired this gem of a song?

My muse on this track was my girlfriend. I was inspired right after a small argument we had, while being in the distance. I composed it in the evening in one and a half hours – the fastest I have ever composed a full song.

3.) It is said that Celosa came to you quickly as a singer and songwriter. Is that often the case when you are working on new material or was the new single a special case?

I always take a little while to compose songs. I never do them in the same day I always give them their time and try to get as much out of them as I can in terms of melody and lyrics, but Celosa has been the exception.

4.) Your producer on Celosa is the highly respected ‘Phily’. How was your collaboration in the studio with Phily while working on the new tune and what does this incredible talent bring to the production of things that no one else can bring?

It is always a pleasure to work with Phily. On this album, I recorded 4 songs with him and in all the songs he always captures my idea from the beginning. We have good chemistry. He brings me a lot in terms of trends and originality and the truth is that I like that. Teamwork is essential to achieve good things.

5.) In your humble opinion, what sets Celosa apart from the distinguished competition in the current music scene?

The first thing is my way of saying things, regardless of my tone. I like to tell stories and I always put my touch on it. Just like in music, I always try to do something different, always adding Cuban instruments even if the song is mainly from a genre from another country.

6.) After the release of Celosa on December 20, can fans expect to see you on the tour and presentation circuit?

Yes, of course. I am already in negotiations for performances and tours. Right now I am based in Geneva, Switzerland, which is a new market for me since before recently I was in Cuba. But the truth is that I am happy with what is to come.

7.) Can you give our always curious readers one or three clues about what you have coming up, musically speaking, by 2025? Could there be an EP or LP release in your near future?

Yes, of course. A lot of music is coming, but very varied -it will surprise you. Celosa and Muévelo are the first songs from my new EP from the album Estoy Listo.

8.) Who are some of your main inspirations in the world of music? And outside of music?

One of my main inspirations in music were the boy bands of the 90s and 2000s like BSB and N’Sync among others, especially in my beginnings, and outside of music I would say Cristiano Ronaldo, since he is a person who has worked hard to get to where he is and always keeps his family in high regard, which is the basis of everything.

9.) You were born in Havana, Cuba. How do those specific roots influence you as a musical artist and as a person?

I will tell you that we Cubans have one of the most beautiful and strong cultures in the world. I feel lucky for that, especially when you leave Cuba, you see the great love that foreigners have for our culture and you value it even more. I always try to bring my culture and my roots to my music. This is something that I will undoubtedly always do.

10.) Any final reflection that you would like to share with fans and readers about your beautiful and vibrant new single Celosa?

First, thank you for the support that you are giving me with the song and second, enjoy it and dedicate it because I know that there are many jealous people out there hahaha and as I say in the song, “Don’t stress yourself out anymore and live life!”.
