Swift ‘Simpsons’ Summaries: “Bart’s Dog Gets An ‘F'”

Within the same season, The Simpsons had an episode title referencing an earlier episode. Weird! “Bart’s Dog Gets an ‘F’” is another Bart episode, though it is through the prism of Santa’s Little Helper. Maybe it’s a “boy and his dog” episode, but through the sensibilities of The Simpsons.

Santa’s Little Helper keeps destroying things and chewing stuff. As somebody who once dated a woman who never tried to teach her dog any obedience and so she would chew and eat anything she could find (including once like five edible gummies), I know how annoying that is. Homer insists Bart take Santa’s Little Helper to obedience school. The dog has issues, but eventually learns the commands necessary. All is well.

Shockingly, The Simpsons didn’t decide to have Santa’s Little Helper sent away from the family due to a lack of proper behavior. Oh, and Lisa has the mumps. It’s a perfectly fine episode. This one leans on heart more, but with only fitful success. As I have done these second-season summaries, I have definitely seen some “rough draft” elements left in the tone and quality of the show. This is another pretty good, possibly good episode, but not an all-timer, not one I want to return to time and time again.

It did give us those Assassins sneakers, though. That’s fun.
