Falkirk’s favourite rock n roll sons, Danko, today release ‘Having Trouble’, the second single from their forthcoming new EP, ‘Take Your Time’.
Inspired by the widescreen, heartland rock sound of acts like War on Drugs and Bruce Springsteen, ‘Having Trouble’ is a storming rocker which hides a very modern sense of tribulation as the lyrics deal with the struggles of love, life and narcotics.
Recorded with legendary producer Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Laura Marling, Paolo Nutini), and being released through Distiller Records on the 12th February 2025, ‘Take Your Time’ feels like the work of a band about to show the world what they’re all about.
Formed by four long-time friends from Falkirk, Scotland, Danko have spent several years trading musical obsessions, learning their craft together, and honing a raw and unfettered sound. Made up of Lewis White (vocals/guitar), Michael Garner (guitar), Jamie Burns (Bass) and Matthew McAllister (drums), the band chose their name to pay tribute to one of their musical heroes, Rick Danko of The Band.
Growing up on their families record collections, their songwriting has been influenced by everyone from U2 and Americana to Arctic Monkeys and Led Zeppelin, and their warm, rootsy sound sits in stark contrast to the angular post-punk sounds that currently dominates guitar music in the UK.
Essentially recorded as live, ‘Take Your Time’ leans into everything that Danko are as a band. They’re not, as White points out, the sort of people that want to be “bedroom Soundcloud artists”; they’re live musicians who’ve honed their craft playing in front of audiences up and down the country, and their newest work captures that inter-band spirit and vibrancy with gusto.
These guys are the real deal, a band with a passionate knowledge of the artists that have come before them, and the determination and skill to steer themselves into that lineage. They’ve already charmed Ethan Johns, now they’re setting their sights on becoming the Scottish Kings of Leon.
