The One Christmas Food I’ve Missed Out On (I Want To Try)

I have had almost all the traditional Christmas foods. It’s been a minute since I have eaten meat, but back in the day I had the meat dishes covered. On the dessert front, I’ve run the gamut. I’ve even had fruitcake! Eggnog? I’ve nogged some eggs, baby! The stuff that is basically the same as Thanksgiving I’ve had in the mix as well, of course. However, I said “almost” because there is one thing I have never had. In fact, I have never had them. Those would be chestnuts. Specifically, of the roasted variety.

It’s right there in one of the iconic Christmas songs: chestnuts roasting on an open fire. The thing is, I like nuts and seeds. As a vegetarian, they do make up a sizable portion of my diet. I’ve had almonds, peanuts, walnuts, pecans, Brazil nuts, and on and on. Chestnuts, though, aren’t in the mix. Roasted chestnuts? Even less so.

The thing is, I’d like to have roasted chestnuts. I should seek them out. Maybe this is the year I make it happen. Will I roast them myself? I’m not so sure. Can I buy chestnuts that have been roasted? Well, guess what I’m going to do right after this…
