‘The Fall Guy’ Wasn’t A Hit But Should Anybody Care?

I’m not sure if I wish I had seen The Fall Guy in theaters. It was not a success. Though the movie made more than its budget, when you factor in marketing it lost money to be sure. It’s a good movie. I like Ryan Gosling as an actor. I like Emily Blunt as an actor. It was nice to see Hannah Waddingham playing a frenetic, villainous character instead of being the lady on Ted Lasso who just tut-tuts men because somebody on the staff seemingly has a fetish for that. The Fall Guy would have been cool on the big screen.

However, do I want to be helping, even in a very modest way, bolster Hollywood’s ever-churning lack of original ideas? The Fall Guy is based on an old TV show. It’s not an original idea. It’s IP mining. Yes, I’ve seen Twisters and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theaters in 2024, so I am not against this brand of movie making. I just don’t want to approach The Fall Guy like I didn’t help out somebody’s passion project. It’s just a Fall Guy movie.

Anyway, sometimes people talk about casting Aaron Taylor-Johnson as James Bond, and thanks solely through seeing him in David Leitch movies I’d be down for that.
