From Finance to Film: Fernanda Arraes Redefines Indie Cinema with Powerful Debut in Senhoras

Fernanda Arraes is a Brazilian actress with a resume that reads like a fever dream of corporate America.

Before her film debut in Senhoras, Arraes wasn’t acting in arthouse dramas; she was crushing it as a top real estate producer and finance exec, helping rake in hundreds of millions in revenue. But then, somewhere between Miami’s glitzy skyscrapers and spreadsheets, she decided to pursue a lifelong passion: acting. Now, she’s stepping into the independent film scene during a post-COVID era where theaters are struggling, streaming is suffocating small films, and everyone’s wondering if we even care about movies that don’t feature a superhero.

Arraes’ debut, Senhoras, dives headfirst into a topic most films avoid: the experiences of aging women. The movie will touch lots of hearts since is a subject that every single one will go through.

the Film is Directed by Marcela Mariz and featuring heavyweights talents like Nívea Maria and Zezé Barbosa two big names on the brazilian dramaturgy industry.

The film is set on the iconic beaches of Copacabana—a backdrop as timeless as the theme itself, showing the beauties of Brazil will embalish the Movie magicaly .

Arraes plays a yoga instructor leading classes for students over 70, a role she describes as small but pivotal.

“My character provides a space for reflection, wellness, and connection,” she says.

It’s a moment of Zen in a film that’s otherwise tackling the harsh realities of ageism, beauty standards, and societal relevance—or lack thereof—for older women.

The experience of be in camera with 2 great actress inspired Fernanda, that now is dedicating to acting class and studing more about cinema.

Independent films have become an endangered species, squeezed between shrinking theater attendance and the algorithmic indifference of Netflix and its ilk. Sure, global box office revenue rebounded to $26 billion in 2022, but that’s still miles away from 2019’s $42 billion.

If you’re not a caped crusader or part of a multiverse, good luck convincing anyone to leave their couch.

But Arraes isn’t worried about the odds. After all, she’s used to betting on herself—and winning. From selling luxury condos at Brickell City Centre to skyrocketing revenue at Nationwide Home Loans, she knows how to turn ambition into results. “I’ve brought the same love, focus, and energy from my earlier successes into acting,” she says, and it shows. Her role in Senhoras may be her first on the big screen, but it’s already garnering attention for its emotional resonance and authenticity.

Arraes credits much of this transition to Carolina Brasil, a producer with a knack for launching talent into the spotlight. It was Brasil who introduced her to Mariz, opening the door tobe part of the MOVIE  Senhoras and helping Arraes navigate the often-inscrutable world of indie filmmaking.

“Carolina’s support has been invaluable,” Arraes says. “She believes in promoting both new and established talent, and I’m grateful for her mentorship.”

For Arraes, Senhoras is just the beginning. “I hope to be part of movies that move and touch people’s lives,” she says. “Art has the power to inspire, connect, and heal.” It’s an ambitious vision, but for someone who’s already conquered two industries, it’s just another step. In a film world still figuring out what comes next, Fernanda Arraes isn’t just adapting—she’s thriving.
